Meditation is a best practice to improve concentration. The process is to stay in a calm, silent, healthy, place seated on a mattress not so soft or hard , closing the eyes, positioning the head straight and breathing steady chanting some names of mono syllables( Rimm Ohmmmmmm, ) per breath exhaled through nose with rhythm of a large bell. Steady breathing and chanting will help you to concentrate on each other. This can be for any duration and as often as possible.

Watch televison and "read" the background
I mean to say mentally take note of the set
and see if any thing is different and /or unusual. It's fun and helps in "tripping the light"
