Muhammad Ali certainly has to be on a list of greatest fighters of all time. Royce Gracie for MMA. Evidently Matt Hughes is going to be a legend in his weight class. This is a very hard thing to classify, because there are alot of really good fighters and alot of guys have a chance to beat each other everytime they step into a fight.

One thing I can say for sure, is that Bruce Lee is not one of the greatest fighters of all time. He was the man as far as being the master of Martial Arts, but that in and of itself does not translate into good competitive fighter. As someone said, Bruce Lee was a little guy, and size does matter. So does the fact that he was never ever a competitive fighter in MMA in any weight class. My Hanshi Lou Angel is one of the greatest martial artists in the world, but does that mean that I think he could have lasted in the Octagon for a round with Royce Gracie? NO WAY!!

Would anyone consider Jackie Chan, or Jet Li a great fighter? Then why would you consider Bruce Lee one?

Bruce Lee was a good martial artist, but he was an actor, he wasn't a fighter. Bruce Lee weighed about 140 pounds soaking wet, he simply would not have the punching power to stand up to alot of todays MMA fighters. If you are talking about a Karate tournament, then Bruce Lee wins hands down, but Karate tournaments are not fights. Gracie would have tapped Bruce Lee in a MMA fight because Gracie is much superior on the ground. You have to realize that most of the stuff Bruce Lee did was meant to be flashy for show and movies. His 3 inch punch was an impressive display but not practicle for a fight, Bruce said this much himself.

There is an old debate about who would have won in a fight between Ali and Bruce Lee. While some people labour under the dilusion that Bruce Lee would beat Ali, Bruce said himself that Ali would kill him because of his punching power.

Bruce Lee could defend himself if he had to against just about anyone in the world, but locked in a cage or a ring in a designed fight, You would be surprised how many people could beat Bruce Lee. Bruce Lee was a human being just like everyone else.

Bruce Lee could punch in less than one hundreth of a second. That is fast, now. Also, in weight lifting, he could do curl ups and other things weightlifters nowadays can barely do a few reps of. Also, Bruce Lee was interested in strength and speed, not the bulkiness of one's muscles. He was an extremely strong guy, too, for those of you who don't know. He was just modest. Read about him from a RELIABLE SOURCE.

Actually d_dinkins Bruce Lee was a martial artist first and foremost. He set up his own martial arts classes and taught students before he ever got into acting. It doesn't matter about his weight or size it was his sheer ability that has definately made him the greatest fighter ever.
