I'm a woman and pays attention to details, but my older brother is totally different. I don't know if it has anything to do with his gender or his personality. There's a problem with the bathroom door. It closes automatically when it's supposed to be open. I filled a bottle with water and put it by the door to stop it from closing. I always remember to do this when I'm done with the bathroom, but NOT my brother. He NEVER remembers to do this simple thing when he gets out of the bathroom, and I have to do it. The other thing about him is that when he uses the key to open the door, the key hole is never in the erect position, and this causes a problem for me when I use the key to open the door. I complain about this in front of my mother, but she always tells me not to say a word about it to my brother. I mean he's 9 years older and why can't he pay more attention to such details. Is he being sloppy or is he being insensitive? Your viewpoints, thanks.

This happens with both males and females. Some people simply aren't detail oriented, don't pay attention, and don't find the need to do so. It can be frustrating when you are detail oriented (some people refer to that as anal) or fussy, but you have to realize in the scheme of things, it's not worth worrying about.
Let your brother be who he is, as I'm sure your attention to detail probably gets on the nerves of others at times. Be very happy if these are the worst issues you have to complain about...truly they may be annoying at times, but aren't important.
Use them to help you learn patience and understanding of others.

I know some people like this also... it is frustrating but on the contrary there is no cure... I have a friend who I have told things to a thousand times... And they are so thick headed I no longer bother... He may feel that you are trying to boss him and he is rebelling by not doing what you ask.. just to get a rise out of you.. Two things.. Don't bother telling him anymore because it seems he doesn't care and secondly fix the door.

It is a matter of priorities. If these things, which are important to you, were important to him, he would do them every time.
If you have a close relationship, and if he cares about you, then if you explain to him, not in a nagging way, but more in an asking for help way, that these things are very important to you, he will decide right there that he will always do them for you.
If he doesn't care, then he won't alter his behavior, and you just have to do something about it yourself.

He is just being a little brother. They like to do stuff like that to their sister. I know cause my brother was the same way with me. But now I don't have him any more as I lost him Jan.2,2005 an unexpected death. Now I wish I had him back. So enjoy your brother now while you can.

I hate to say this, but he is ok.... he is not sweating the small stuff. Your mom is right you do not need to go to your brother about this because it is not his problem, the person you need to go to is YOUR MOTHER. She should have the door and keyhole fix that is the best remedy for the situation. This is your mother's fault and her problem to fix. So you need to talk with her to get the door and keyhole fix.

It starts with his age, but also being a guy. Guys and gals are wired different. He may do better as he gets older, give him time.

you can't change ppl for your habits.He may think your to into detail.Why is your mom not wanting to make your brother mad?? Sounds like dear old mom is affraid of making her baby mad.....maybe that's why he's like that.
