My husband and I just bought a vintage kitchen range with the knobs on the front.. at the time I bought it I didn't consider the fact that my toddlers would be able to reach the knobs to turn it on.. does anyone know if there's anything out that I could get for the stove that would prevent them from being able to turn it on?? If so, what is it called and where can I get it?? Thanks!

Parental supervision is great, but you obviously don't have children of your own or else you'd know how sneaky toddlers can be ;)

Mine haven't messed with the stove yet, either, but as parents I think we have a responsibility to make sure bad things don't happen ;) And with TWO toddlers it's impossible to watch BOTH all the time- especially when one's running one way and the other's taking advantage of the situation and doing something bad elsewhere..

Don't use the stove covers, kids figure that stuff out. The best thing to do is take the knobs off and make sure they can't reach or find the knobs, cause they will put them back on if they can get them. Kids are very smart, they always watch, be very careful!!

I agree with the knob toppers and removing the knobs all together but I also agree that it parental supervision and yes I have a toddler and if his butt is crazy enough to touch the knobs then the stove won't be the only thing with some heat so will his butt. He already has been told about it and he listens. I think thats because I showed him and explained it before he decided to touch it. He loves to help mommy cook but he knows what he can and can't do, I let him stur things and add seasoning to meats etc but when it comes to the stove thats a no no period. He'll tell you thats hot mommy and move far away from the stove whenever I open it or when I cook on the stove top I sometimes used to pick him up and let him feel the steam from a pot so he understands hot. Now I wouldn't do that while making french fries but a pot of rice or when boiling water for spagetti or something. Also at the begining he would feel the outside of the stove and say hot and back away. He is 2 1/2 now and we understand each other he can help mommy but the stove is for adults only.

I have actually heard of plastic guards you can get that still allow you access to the knobs, but will keep little hands off. I think you should start at a hardware store and see if they can point you in the right direction. Also, the internet is great so try a google on stove knob guard (just to be very simple, not sure the correct name). You might just find it!

Try www.totsafe.com. They have plastic stove knob covers just for this. A 5 pk of these knobs is only $7.95.

It's called parental supervision. Try using around knives also.
