none of the CTx ratings and the IT rating are not what I would consider 'not too difficult'. As for profitable.. if you are looking to get rich in the Navy, think again, you won't. If you are wondering what has the best translation into the civilian worksforce.. it depends on what you want to do. CTIs don't often end up being native level speakers and do very little actual interpreting, despite the name. They translate and analyze within context.

ITs probably have a better foundation to translate into civilian(read: Government) jobs. Both require a Security Clearance, which by and of itself is useful in obtaining a job in the civilian or government sector.

With CTI, you do NOT get to choose what language you learn. The day you show up to DLI is the day you find out what language you will be learning. With IT, you have a smidge more control over what secondary NECS you can get.

Depends...I'm an IT in the Navy...former CTO but we merged together. If you are good with new languages, than CTI, but it is difficult. School for CTI is usually over a year long and you have a 6 year obligation. School for IT is only a few months and the obligation is either 4 or 5 years depending on what you want. They both have good advancement. As for which one is more profitable....Both make good money in the civilian world. Personally I like the IT world so I chose CTO, now IT.

Both rates are fine, and both rates will leave you with something you can use later as a cake-eating civilian.
However, the best job in the Navy is Gunner's Mate. Electronics, explosions, hydraulics, guns, pneumatics, explosions, guns, and more guns and explosions. It is without a doubt the coolest job and the most fun. Did it for 13 years and loved it every minute.
