Not an expert but I've spent most of my life being active. I ran for over 30 years before my knees finally wore out, sometimes putting in over a 100 miles a week. When I logged those kind of high milage weeks the weight would melt off but usually jump back on when I cut my workouts back. It was and up & down affair for many years. When I was forced to cut back as my knees began to go I had a real difficult time with loosing those extra pounds. Last year, with the help of a trainer I began to spend more time on the eliptical machine, walking on the treadmill or outside walking. Also began to discover the bicicyle again. Those changes in activity didn't necesarily help me with weight management but they did help me stay active. That is extremely important to me. The advise of my trainer was to obtain a heart rate monitor, set it and wear it when I worked out. He talked to me about ZONE training and trying to gear my workouts in the lower, zone 3 area for weight loss. I had a difficult time with this at first because it didn't seem to give me the rush or make me feel tired after I was finishing working out. Yet to my surprise I began to loose weight. I've dropped 20 lbs in the last year and its staying off. Walking is a great way to workout without cranking your heart rate into the higher zones. Do a little research on zone training, see if it fits into what your goals are all about. Good luck!

Walking is great for weight loss, as long as you are eating right. It worked for me; I lost inches and pounds(35) over a 2.5 month period. I always feel great afterwards...more energy and in better moods.

if the only exercise you get is walking, you end up with chicken legs and look like a barrel, look at school teachers if you want clarification on this, they look like barrels, little chicken legs and big bellies.
