I know what you are saying, it's called faith. I feel that in the beginning there needed to be a set of laws so that man kind could live together in some sort of peace and harmony hence the 10 commandments. Humans need a reason for struggling and working so hard in life so what we came up with is heaven, a place where we will be rewarded for being a "good" person in our life on earth. As far as people following it blindly, I don't know. I do know that many, many people don't think very deeply. Maybe it's just too scary to these people who follow blindly to even consider anything else. I think it may be different for each person.

The fundamental basis of almost all religions (with the exception of Aetheism) is the belief in blind faith. Scientific proof isn't necessary to have a belief, or even hope, that things somewhere will be better than they are here, now. It's not so much that Believers don't find proof necessary, as much as it is that they feel that God's Plan (whichever god they worship) is bigger than what we can currently explain.
Let me put it to you this way. If we had decided 10 years ago that we'd acquired all the knowledge that we ever needed to know in the universe, then we'd have never found a vaccine for cervical cancer, we'd have never began our quest to visit Mars, etc. The whole basis of science and understanding is that there are millions of questions that may never be answered, but that we strive every day to learn more and more and maybe someday answer a few of them.
I'm not one who believes in swiging someone towards or away from any religion. You have to choose for yourself. I do feel, however, that if you study science and history, you'll find that the lines are blurred a lot more than they look from the surface, and that a lot of very important discoveries that have been made in science have come from attempts to prove religion. The world can exist with both Hope and Science...even if we can't understand today Why.

No angry response here - hopefully just sensible answers to your questions.
I find plenty of proof - all I have to do is follow God's directions on living life and I can see how this can have many positive benefits.
How many religions teach about vegetarianism and it's impact on global harmony? Science itself has proved that humans can live healthy happy lives as vegetarians - it has even been proved that excess consumption of red meat makes people more aggressive (let alone any health concerns). There is enough wasted food-grains which are fed to animals instead of feeding the hungry of the world and yet even most christians fail to see this simple equation.
The ancient Hindu religion taught about Yoga as a means not only for improving ones physical well-being but also their mental well-being. Does this have any bearing on the increasing need for mental health treatment centres throughout the world?
There are many more proofs of God if you sincerely try to understand the directions given in the scriptures. God is not some material being who can be measured by our puny instruments. Our current best scientific instruments cannot pear to the furthest reaches of the universe or the smallest entities.

religion is man made to brainwash it's followers in to doing things they don't understand, or want to do. Take a look at the Church's how many are poor, none yet how many followers are poor lots, for to many years people of the world have lived by what it says in a storey book, The bible, Koran etc, living in blind faith of what their told from a book written by man, man has always wanted power, and money, so what better way than to change the words of books written years ago, and i don't mean change them now, i mean at the time of the first writing, when the words of God were spoken, but not written, sometimes because man did not understand Gods words, but Man was more gifted and took this opportunity to turn some of the words of God, into the words of man
Have faith in God, not a book
Love & Peace

You are right, people need to feel purpose and direction (and belonging and security etc etc). But I think the main reason is that religion claims to address the biggest fear of all - death. Since we know we can't survive physical death, it is easy to buy into religion that claims that you have something called a soul that survives death, so hooray, you don't really die after all.
It is of course the utter nonsense of a comforting delusion but many people would rather settle for this fantasy and pretend that there is god who cares about them and will look after them (just like mommy and daddy did...) than face up to life in a universe which is indifferent to us. When it comes to a choice between accepting how the world really is or pretending it is how we would like it to be, psychology trumps reason every time.

nobody should blindly follow their religion their must be reason to satisfy the mind before the heart will accept.however, their are too many people who blindly follow and it is these weak individuals that will do horrible things to people in the name of their god. most people are born into their religions and become complacent and lazy not questioning weather their beliefs live up to gods standards, they follow blindly others who have fallen into this vicious cycle. most of the actions and beliefs of those who supposedly follow the bible or other books dont really understand what these books teach but sadly follow misguided men who twist the teachings for selfish gains hence the division and confusion prevalent on the worlds religious scene. oh yeah! the devil is making them do it i forgot.

Maybe you should view the various Religions as "Roads" we may all take a different one but they all lead to the same place; as for blindly following...well many roads also have detours...your free will comes into play...make your cholice...if you don't like it...try another. As for NO PROOF...well those who follow a particular Holy Book will disagree I'm sure...but if YOU want proof that there is Life after Life...visit a Spiritualist Church.

I do not follow my beliefs blindly. My eyes, my mind and my heart are fully open!
These "religious concepts" may not be proven TO YOU, but your belief system does not render mine meaningless. I used to think there was freedom in my ignorance, now I know true freedom with the ignorance removed by the Truth.

You must allow those to stay focus for what they know Is True. Why doubt what others want to believe? No one is invading ur beliefs. God gives us purpose and direction with free will. You have free will and choose otherwise. Trying to stir up strife and hurting others will cause a boomerang affect. "You will reap what you sow". Seek ur truths and move on. God exists in every way and so does his words not just by faith but proof by his manifesting powerful love and presence on every believer.

Yes I agree, religion is a system of beliefs to follow to enable a good life. I could quite happily ransack my family and friends for money and diamonds but I have a belief that I would be punished after death if I did so. So count your self lucky that humans have come up with a system of beliefs that stops me :)
