I am a distant cyclist and I commute to work on a daily basis.

Do you think that I would be able to keep up with you while you drive? Based on your normal driving speed.

(II) Driving Styles

1.Is your vehicle equipped with a manual (stick shift) or automatic transmission?
2.What is your usual acceleration style? For example, do you typically keep a feathery or heavy foot on the gas pedal?
3. What kind of vehicle do you drive?

I try not to accelerate hard unless necessary. My car is a 2000 Volvo S70. It is quick if compaired to a traditional non turbo Volvo. Which means it is only a little slower than most other cars. I would think if you started in gear 6-10 (assuming 21 speeds) that you would be able to out sprint me under normal acceleration conditions to 20mph +/-. The human muscle can reach full power almost instantaneously where the automobile has to find the point in it rev range where its power train produces the most power. This gives you an advantage off of the starting line.

Over distance I average approximately 25 mph based on the computer display in my dash. If you were allowed to ride unimpeded by traffic and signals while I followed the same route with usual impedance's it is possible you would arrive at the destination before me.

Maybe I should buy a bike?????????

1. Manual
2. Depends on if I'm in a hurry but most of the time I don't "lead" foot it.
3. Merkur XR4Ti (Mare-koor not Mer-ker)

The average speed on my commute is about 40 to 50 miles an hour so no, I don't think you could keep up.

I'm going to go ahead and say that this is probably the most poorly-written question I have ever read here on Yahoo! Answers. Perhaps you should start over. Sharpen a new pencil, get a clean sheet of paper, take a deep breath, clear your mind, formulate your question in your mind, and write it down. Then type it here.

you are a "distant" cyclist - I would have to accelerate quickly to catch up to you to run you over
