I keep seeing Christians saying the Old Testament is not used any longer, especially when challenged with questions on scripture.

Why is it still around, then?
What purpose does it serve if it is no longer used?
It seems to me that if they were all destroyed, there would be much less confusion.
Any ideas?

Thanks, Paradise. This is what I've been told before, too.

OK..the overall consunsus is that the OT should still be in use.

Then....why don't these people burn bulls on an alter or have slaves?

Christianity seems to be a free-for-all, based on the answers here.

The Old Testament is still apart of the Bible. The purpose of the Old Testament is to show how God created this world starting with Genesis. If Christians delete the Old Testament, we would be in violation of "taking away" from scripture which God specifically prohibits. "Christians" who claim that the Old Testament is not in use may be confused about their faith.

The Old Testament is used every day by millions of people.

The Old testament reveals God, the creation of man and God's design for our lives. It documents the history of God's Chosen People, the Twelve Tribes of Israel, and it lays out the prophesies concerning the coming Messiah, the Chosen One, Jesus, the Christ.

A Christian who does not read and understand the Old Testament can not have a deep understanding of the new Testament.

The Old Testament is Christ concealed, The New Testament is Christ revealed.

The OT is kept to secure a place for a "creator" for Everything. The NT alone only involved a small region on earth and is not as compelling to become a world region.
(note: the creation part has been expanding from the sun-moon-earth-planets talk several hundred years ago, to the universe we now know we live in, and it is bound to include all multiverse that exist when scientists so discover, and what not)

Christains that say this lack understanding....If you are asking questions pertaining to law then you can see there is a problem while the law is holy and righteous and we have on our hearts and still respect the penalty of law is death has been apid for those who accept Christ atonement It does not permit Christians to live in sin as they are to consider themselves dead to sin and alive to Christ in his resurrection through our faith but the law and the old testament are still very important to Christians...but if you are asking questions that is putting Christians under law than you will find the problem.

The OT is a key in understanding the NT .. especially the Pentateuch ...

Let's not get on a book burning tirade - then we shall have to continue and burn all the Enid Blyton books all over again ...

Given the fact the vast majority of Christians don't follow any rules, why do they even bother having a bible?

Maybe it makes them feel special to carry it into McDonald's after church.
