Unless the fever in adults is more than 38.9°C, aggressive treatment is not necessary. The reason for treating pain or fever is usually to relieve the symptoms.

Paracetamol
A simple analgesic such as paracetamol (Herron, Panadol or Tylenol) will usually reduce fever and pain with very few adverse effects. Paracetamol suspensions such as Panadol (Children) and Paralgin (Children) are effective in reducing fever in children.

NSAIDs
Aspirin (Aspro or Disprin) and ibuprofen (ACT-3, Actiprofen or Nurofen) are sometimes considered to be simple antipyretics (fever reducers), although they are really non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). You should stop taking these products if you experience indigestion or increased bruising. Aspirin is not recommended for children under 12 years old, unless under medical advice. You should not take aspirin if you have symptoms of indigestion or stomach ulcers, and should use it with caution if you have asthma, kidney disease or dehydration.

Supplements
The following supplements may also help:

vitamin C and bioflavonoids;
willow bark; and
ginger.

@ statenisland.. aspirin has serious complications (prolongs platelet aggregation [bleeding], gastric irritant, allergic reactions) , you should excercise precaution in taking aspirin for a subjective feeling of 'feverish..'

> check your temperature via the axilla, for a reading of 104'F above, do a sponge bath. paying attention to the axilla, groin and head.
> If you have no thermometer, have someone at least 'feel' your body to assess.
> Keep room ventilated, normalize room tem.
> take paracetamol every 4 hours round the clock.
> if feverish for more than 24-48 do visit your hospital

oh, do you have cough or colds? that might be the cause.
