I had long, curly hair for most of my life. The following is what I used to make my hair look it's best:

1) Shampoo (Don't skimp - Biolage, Aveda, Sebastian are all good products to use. Use a clarifying shampoo to strip old products out of the hair, and a hydrating shampoo if your hair is dry.)

2) Conditioner (Rebalance Leave-In conditioner by L'anza. It's lightweight and never greasy feeling. It won't weigh your hair down....ever.)

3) Mousse (Paul Mitchell or Sebastian make good mousses. This, I find, is better than using gel, which is more for control. It can also weigh your hair down, which you don't want when you're trying to encourage curl.)

4) Use a diffuser on your hair dryer. This, I find, is the most important step for bringing out the curl in your hair. Flip your hair upside down and work from underneath to the front, scrunching curls into your hair while gently drying it. The diffuser spreads the air out into a soft stream, rather than a harsh direct heat that can blow the curl right out.

5) If you have thick, course hair, your curls should stay put until you wash your hair again. If you have thinner, finer locks, try a light misting of hairspray to lock in your curls. Spray and sprunch in sections and use the diffuser to lightly dry and lock in the hairspray.

Good luck!
