in particular for my calfs, and to tone or muscularise (if thats a word) my abdominal area?

I have been doing 40 press ups a day 3 times a week but would like better and quicker results on my pec area, what can I do to ensure the best from the excercises?

Thanks in advance!

Nothing can actually target weight loss, but the best way to tone your abs is free-floor crunches, not ones on an ab-machine. It gives you more resistance and makes your muscles work harder. Don't do them quickly, do about 3 repetitions of 12 or 15, making sure you hold the situp crunch in a upward position for at least 2 seconds and then bringing yourself slowly down to the floor. Doing it quickly ruins the whole exercise!!

Using weights will help in whatever exercise you are doing.

I would recommend that you join a gym where they offer advice on the best exercise routine for you - if you start using weights, do it gradually - if you overdo it you could do some damage and also you'll have to wait until it stops hurting before doing any more exercise!!

Sit ups are good for the abdomenal area, but you need other exercises too to make a difference fast.

If you haven't got the time or money to go to a gym, supermarkets like Argos sell a range of exercise gear - eg for your calves, ankle weights are good and inexpensive to buy.

The best tip is to do a range of different exercises, weights, cardio-vascular, aerobics - running etc.

Did you know that housework is a brilliant workout? You could volunteer to hoover all your family and friend's houses and the general exercise benefits will show - also you will be very popular !!

Good luck.

Calisthenics, Pilates.....but if you wish not to put that much into it, get an exercise ball (large sized) and do your exercises with it. A sit up from one of those will let you know you've been there! There are a multitude of exercises that can be done on that ball, and I can guarantee the results will be faster and excellent. A push up with your legs up on that ball will work nearly muscle from your ankles to your wrists....make certain you do warm ups first, because this works back muscles big time!

i love these questions. calfs are easy to build on, you must do standing and seated calf raises, you fill a sensation like no other. for shoulders you must do overhead press, for biceps you must do dumbell curls, for triceps you must do skullcrushers, for back you must do bent over rows and for chest you must do incline/decline and flat bench press. you will good results in a week if you do this 4 timews every week, do all that togehter and it will virtually be a full body workout.
