NO! But the desire to want to inflict harm to oneself or cope with stress in this way needs to be addressed. I worked at a mental health hospital where many teens and a few adults were brought in for this behavior. I don't know your age but I do feel that this is a trend and a learned behavior. Youths' peers and media have highlighted cutting in recent years.
As for therapy, I highly recommend the behavioral-cognitive type, which encourages personal responsibility and analyzes the thoughts behind a behavior. Reordering my thoughts was key in giving me victory over depression, so I can vouch for it. See the second online resource for more info.
I am a Christian and I know for a fact that the sinner I was is not the person I am today. I was also a very depressed individual for years. No more. Please never accept a defeatist attitude about anything.
The first listing below is an excellent resource for anyone with a concern about this issue. It is faith-based but includes book titles, support groups and secular online resources, as well. Many blessings. Buttercup

If you address the cause of the problem, then you can make it stop. It was 4 years ago that I last cut myself.
I refused to deal with emotions, I bottled things up until they got to be too much. Since I was told "Stop crying or I'll give you a reason to cry" growing up, I found it easier to deal with a physical pain rather than an emotional one.

After some counseling with my priest I realized that my dad was wrong on that account and that he just didn't know how to deal with a daughter (he didn't have sisters). It was okay to have emotions.

From the point that I decided to stop, and fully addressed the cause it took a few weeks. I wore a red rubberband and resisted the urge as long as I could, then popped it. I also stopped being around people who made me want to hurt myself, like my boss who called me "stupid."

Once you cut yourself, it's easy to do it again. It's not true, however. You can always stop cutting, but it may take a counselor or a good friend to stop you.
