My first question was how often is something like this happening? Is it just a matter of lack of interest. If you are talking to someone and they are telling you about how the paint on their doghouse was drying I would think it would be pretty simple to "zone" out. I have also found that if I am tired I have a hard time concentrating on what I have just read or if there are a lot of distractions around and I am not interested in what I am having to read... Before you dope yourself up, just try to change your work environment when you read. Go outside or turn the radio on (or off) whatever needs to be changed just to try something different. When you are talking to someone, pay attention to the main parts of what they are saying then repeat them back in a different way. That shows to them that you were in fact listening and that you care but it also forces you to pay attention.

If that doesn't work THEN you should talk to your Dr.

Do you have a lot of soda and drinks with caffeine?
Sometimes diet can be a big factor, plus stress and lack of sleep. not to mention too much computer and TV.
It could be like a spiritual or psychic issue. Don't mean to freak you out. You could just be a very sensitive person, which if you figure out how to treat yourself right, can be a powerful thing. This world of today can be very overstimulating!
See a doctor if these simple things don't help, but taking drugs isn't for everyone, and I think they're over-prescribed a lot.

Most definately look into being tested for ADD, and ADHD.
I tested positive for both, Test showed me to be ADHD as a child, and ADD as an adult,
Very difficult in every aspect of life ecspecially when it comes to learning, for me the easiest way to grasp something is to see , or to actually do... (Hands on...)
Also a little note.
There is, if you desire further education as an adult they do have special free college courses,
Not sure of what they are all called but if you are officially diagnosed with one of these it is considered as a major disability, here at my local college, It is called something like Adult special education etc. etc...
Also has a long waiting list according to the severity, Because of the fundings they get...

Like with mine it is a ADD, and aThyroid issue, so of 3 levels I am considered to be level 2, anywhere from 6 months to a year wait to get in for level 2's...

Also not sure of details, they have a way to teach you how to grasp much easier.

All I know at this point until I to finally go through it...

My psychologist set me up with this...

Good luck....

Don't feel bad sweetie,I have the same problem!!! I usually have 50 million other things that I am thinking about all at once too!! I have to write things down so I don't forget or either when someone tells me something I usually have to ask them 2 or 3 times, because I forgot what they told me the first time!!! I don't know if it could be something serious or not,but it wouldn't hurt to ask and when you find out let me know,so I can do something about it too!!!

I hear ya. It's like, zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz, blah, blah, blah! I know what you're going through, first hand. I have the same problem. What I've been doing to help me better understand what I've ead and not fall asleep reading it, is read outloud into a voice recorder. I save the files on my computer, of course you don't have to do that, and download the .wav files into my ipod to listen to later. Then I don't have to to re-read it. Good luck.

Sounds like you may have ADD or ADHD.

Drink very strong coffee with lots of caffineen.

See if this increases concentration.

If so, see a doctor, ask for a prescription of Ritalin.

good luck
