i can honestly say in a way you are right... i am scared in believing somewhat, but not because of my fear of going to hell..but the fear of the alternative if there was no god...and this world, would be all there is ... with no justice for the oppressed,no retribution for the wicked.. just here.. good or bad.. hope you had a good one and if not tough luck

Neither. I was expected to believe in God as a child but from the "teachings" and the experience I had from that, I came to the conclusion that either God did not exist or He was not a good God and I should not live my life by the way I was being taught. Now, with my own opinions, I am still unsure as to whether there is a God although I certainly do believe there is a higher power, even if that might be something as simple as "Mother Nature".

No, i'm not a believer because i might lose out on something or in case there is God and he gets angry. I believe in God because I don't accept the notion that everything about me and around me happened by chance.
Yes, there are lots of people who do have a passing belief in God because they think He may become angry or they might lose out on something.
I believe in God because I don't think everything happened by chance and also more importantly that I can see how politicians, governments, economists and scientists have singularly failed to address the problems of poverty, disease and suffering in this world. I was a believer in the scientific/economic dream and you can say I lost faith in that since I saw too many opportunistic people ripping everyone else by putting on a facade. In the beginning I had even thrown away some religious books given to me as I too assumed them to be superficial mumbo jumbo. As it turned out the real mumbo jumbo was believing in superficial, greedy and selfish people who were recklessly exploiting anything and everything.
God was kind enough to forgive my ignorance and has shown me the truth. God is never angry unlike what you might read in the Bible or Quran because God has created everything and given us freewill. Granting freewill and getting angry are incompatible. There is a song which goes "If you love someone, set them free" - this is what God has done because he loves us.
God being the possesor of so many opulences does not want anything except our happiness and that's why he gives us simple rinstructions to us - which if followed are good not only for us but the whole of creation.

I believe there is a God. Mostly because I don't want to believe that the universe is a chaotic mess. I believe that there is someone or something in control of everything that happens because there is just too many coincidences in the world for it to be chaos.
But, I just answered this question because I had 666 points and thought it would be important to answer a religious question and earn 2 points.

I used to be scared into believing when I was a child. Come adoloscence, I turned atheist, only to be a rebel to what I was being forced to do.
In my 30s now, I have realized God is everywhere. Forget about being put through those rites that humans have invented to show as a richter scale of their devotion levels. Look around you at the miracle of creation. This cannot be an accident. It has a symmetry and beauty that is not human.

I really believe in God. I know God is real more than I know I have arms and legs. Even if I'm just a brain in a jar receiving electrical impulses, I know that God is real.
Besides that, I sincerely don't want to go to hell.

To Pascal, God was the Christian God of the Bible. The Bible provides information about the Christian God but not proof for God. Should you believe in this God? In his Wager, Pascal provides an analytical process for a person to evaluate his options in regard to belief in the Christian God. The person who has no more information than that which he finds in the Bible would find himself facing the following possibilities:
You may believe in God, and if God exists, you go to heaven: your gain is infinite.
You may believe in God, and if God doesn't exist, your loss is finite and therefore negligible.
You may not believe in God, and if God doesn't exist, your gain is finite and therefore negligible.
You may not believe in God, and if God exists, you will go to hell: your loss is infinite.
From these possibilities, and the principles of statistics, Pascal deduced that it would be better to believe in God unconditionally. It is an application of game theory to itemize options and payoffs and is valid within its assumptions. After starting with only that information found in the Bible, the person can then be given additional information to encompass all the knowledge that man has assessed and on re-evaluating his position, he will reach the same conclusion; it would be better to believe in the God of the Bible unconditionally.

I believe in God because I felt His presence one day and I was baptised in the Holy spirit before I knew what the Holy Spirit was. My depression was cured at that instant, and I wasn't even in church I was on the beach. My parents never taught me anything about God or Jesus, in fact I knew so little that I had to learn from scratch pretty much. I wasn't afraid of Hell because I hadn't considered it. There are many people like me.

purely specific communities use "scare methods" and oftentimes, it quite is to maintain their followers from analyzing different denominations. As for myself, i wished to renowned extra and there grew to become into on no account any scare tactic used as a skill of coercion. in fact, as i grew to become into turning out to be up, I asked questions for which the religion of my young ones might desire to supply no solutions (that have been proper to me). As an grownup, i got here across a course that could desire to respond to those questions. I additionally believe that hell is a innovations set, consisting usually of guilt from understanding which you will have executed some thing once you probably did no longer, or you probably did some thing once you would not have. similar to getting caught for speeding once you knew what you have been doing... Edit upload: After analyzing a number of something of the responses, i'm getting the sensation that maximum human beings are not scared into believing, yet easily want to believe in God for the affection it quite is recent of their lives. whether there will be people who disagree with me, i'm getting the sensation that this "scare" rumor is extra purely that -- a rumor -- than the rest, and used many times to maintain non-believers from looking right into a faith and doubtless changing over...

I believe because I think that there is a God. It's probably normal for people to fear hell, but I don't, because I believe in God.

Why would anyone believe in god. It does not make sense. Its like believing in green talking dogs. Maybe they exist so I will believe in them. Better to have no beliefs then see what is the truth. Hell is another green dog belief.
