By "Christian," I am referring to Pat Robertson, "God did it," bible thumping fundamentalists who claim they talk directly to God, and, he, in turn, talks to them.

If you have a direct pipeline to God, why bother going to school? Can't God teach you everything you need to know?

Isn't going to school demonstrating lack of faith?

If God talks directly to you, why would you need a bible? Or, a preacher?

This is somewhat tongue in cheek, but it is a serious question directed at those who try to tell others what to do based on the claim they talk with God.

It's a public forum, any opinions are welcome.

To BillyB:

Thanks for that excellent demonstration of civility.

We should all follow your fine example.

Well your logic is failed in several places. You assume because God has all knowledge & can not be taught anything that we as human (low) beings (life) should not be taught. He allows for us to learn. Wasn't the original reason of science to "try" and explain how God created everything as opposed to . . . nothing out of nothing made everything. And yes I know the opposite of that sounds crazy too that Something outside of nothing made everything. But hey I would not even bother with being on here if I was not worried about your rejection of The Gospel. You seem very bitter. You have even threatened me on here before. If you do reject it then ignore it & leave this section of Q&A and go talk about atheist things. Why keep beating a dead horse? My reason for preaching at people is that it;
1. It was commanded to me to do so by Jesus. It's actually rather hard & awkward.
2. As I said before since I do believe The Bible I would be letting other humans walk blindly off of a cliff to their deaths if I did not try to warn them.

Anyway I hope you actually read this. I hope you have a great night. Just because our beliefs differ does not mean we can not be civil.

It's like you are asking, " Why do you bother breathing as a Christian, isn't breathing demonstrating a lack of faith?" I'm sorry to say this to you, Sir...but I don't think you have an idea whatsoever what being a Christian is all about.
Christians go to school or do homeschooling, because we believe that God's creation is magnificent ...complex to the max and therefore worthy to be studied. God doesn't want us to be laissez-faire individuals...he wants us to be proactive and curious about all aspects of life.

Does anti-gay bullying mean they are bullying people who are anti-gay? I think you mean gay bullying where they're bullying gays. In either case, bullying in general, for any reason, is wrong. My kids get bullied for being Christians and it makes them pretty sad too. The kid across the street got bullied for being autistic. Some kids are just bullied because they look strange or don't wear the right clothes to school. It was the same way when I was in school 30 years ago. I'm not sure the problem has gotten worse, but it is certainly more publicized when it happens these days (as are most things). I remember the kids on my bus calling another kid "SnotMan" all the time because he had allergies and was always wiping his nose. They sang the Batman song putting SnotMan in for his name. I thought it was really mean and didn't particpate, but that kind of stuff is not new. Kids can be very disrespectful of each other, and unfortunately many don't outgrow it as they "mature". But I think society has generally become pretty apathetic toward gays and I've seen them pretty accepted in schools. I wouldn't honestly be surprised if it is the anti-gays who get bullied these days. But like I said, any form of bullying should not be tolerated.

If we could just ask God for whatever answers we wanted, why would we hold to a Bible so much? We don't claim to just be able to snap our fingers and download instructions to pilot a chopper, Matrix-style; all things are supposedly possible with faith, but then again if we could demonstrate that kind of faith.... we would.

yes god CAN teach you everything. But good christians ask for guidance and grace and help for those in need. Good christians do not demand education of God anymore than they demand to win the lottery by Gods hand.

I'm not religious, I just found that question a little small minded so I thought I should answer.

-- written by Max Ehrmann in the 1920s --
Not "Found in Old St. Paul's Church"! -- see below

Go placidly amid the noise and the haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.

As far as possible, without surrender,
be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
and listen to others,
even to the dull and the ignorant;
they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons;
they are vexatious to the spirit.

If you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain or bitter,
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.

Exercise caution in your business affairs,
for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals,
and everywhere life is full of heroism.
Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love,
for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment,
it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years,
gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.

Beyond a wholesome discipline,
be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be.
And whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life,
keep peace in your soul.

With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.

God performs miracles through us, and for us, but He will not do everything for us. He will not cause all knowledge to osmose into our heads. Whether to learn or not is our personal choice. Otherwise everyone would be perfect. God works in us for spiritual things mostly, but as Christians, if we ask for something that is in accordance with God's will, we will recieve it. Infinate knowledge is not in Gods will for us (most of us at least). It's like giving a ferrari to a four year old.

Pat Robertson is an idiot!

Isn't he the one that said "unless I got my wires crossed with Jesus, this will be a really bad hurricaine season." Or something like that. Have we even had one hurricaine this year?

Responding to Ernie,

God did not give us brains, the devil did when Eve bit into the apple. Doesn't that make learning evil (I know that the church thought so in the Renaissance)

Why they are ignorant? Christians seek knowledge only for what can be twisted to support their evil designs. Truth is the casualty in this battle, and they will not see the light. They are not civilized.
