I think the expression was started back in the days when folks sailed from one country to another, shipping goods, when trading from one society to another first began. Many sail boats would sink, and a captain told his crew, Practice makes perfect!! so they would work long hours practicing, so they wouldn't sink and all die. I read that in a book sometime in my past, and I don't remember what decade I read it in, so you'll just have to take my word for it. lol. I use it now, when I teach cooks how to use a butcher knife, showing them how to curl their fingers around the object they are cutting, so when the 'knife hand' slices the product being sliced, they don't cut their fingers off in the process. I hope this answers your question. Ron Couch

The quate actually means that it is only practice, hard work and sincerity which helps one to become perfect. Though it is difficult enough to be perfect but still one must always have the courage and determination to become perfect in life. Thus it is true that practice makes perfect which requires good practice.

this one of those zen questions :) - clear you head
The saying is saying that if you practise you will become perfect, but it it also saying that no one is perfect, so why would you practise if you cannot be perfect. Battle ends before it starts.
It assumes that you practise to become perfect or that with practise you CAN become perfect. But you practise to get better, hone your technique. Perfection may be attainable but is fleeting, even the best athletes screw up. You practise to make you self better, not perfect.
It also assumes that prefect ion is unattainable so no point trying to attain it. You may attain perfection at certain points in your life, but you will never remain prefect, there in lies the point in life, to always better yourself, compared to your past self (no one else).
The saying is self defeating, usually spoken by an individual with no drive for self betterment.

that is "practice makes acceptable" not "practice makes a guy acceptable" It skill once you practice doing something, quickly adequate you'd be acceptable at doing that element. you'll do it extra acceptable than others & in a strong way.

I disagree that nobody's perfect in any aspect, nor that no one can do anything perfectly
"Nobody's perfect" is what morons say when confronted with their ineptitude.
