I do a lot of gaming on my computer, and the new one that I bought doesn’t seem to play my high end games very well. My slower computer was better. I was told that I would get better performance if I get a better video card. What is on a video card and why is this device needed to play some of the higher end graphic first person shooter games?

A video card renders the 3D polygraphs that make up the graphics in high-end games. It uses a GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) to create the visual effects used in a game. Even though a newer computer may be faster, the video card is actually what processes all the video elements of your game. The good part is that it is highly likely that you can swap the video card from your old computer into your new computer - or a better idea - buy a new higher-end video card for the new computer. For around $70-100, you can get a very decent video card that will work for all new games off the shelf.

any AGP video card will work. right now you have 256MB of video so i would get one with 512MB of video ram.
