Why are there so many things all named after COLUMBIA in the United States like Washington D.C., CBS, Columbia University, Columbia Pictures...etc.?
What does Columbia stand for?
Thanks!

It came from Christopher Columbus, although his name was actually Cristobal Colon...Colombia (the country) probably came first, followed by our English interpretations of the spelling.

Maybe is has something to do with Christopher Columbus??
Columbia is probably the more modern language version of this Latin family name.

Columbus supposedly discovered america. It has a better ring I guess than the Erikson River, Erikson University, District of Erikson. Whew thank god for that minor historical oversight./
