When I visit my hostfamilies, I always think what I should bring... I think I've already given most of the tyipical Japanese souvenirs like foliding fans, tops, postcards, calendars, kokeshi dolls, Japanese fabrics, things printed Mt. Fuji, origami (paper foldings) etc.
so what should I bring next time?

Some geta sandals would be cool if you knew their foot size, or you can just give them some folding fans.

Hmmm, I would guess a sports T-shirt or tourist T-shirt from your area for the boy (Japanese sizes run small; if he takes a Japanese large, it might be best to get a medium. Or a medium and a large, if you like . . . kids grow so fast these days.). I heard the My Little Pony movie might be out by April in Japan, so possibly some My Little Pony merchandise? Stationery, pens, etc. Possibly stickers. Not sure about T-shirts, but maybe. Japanese girls tend to love Teh Cute.

Is this the same host family each time? Because I think all the things you mentioned would be very nice.

When my Japanese friends have visited, they have brought lovely printed handkerchiefs and small coin purses.

Well, bring some food. Not those delicates like sushi. Some of their exotic candy and cookies. Also, many of the other foods from japan. Let them eat some japanese culture.

Pretty calendars are good, you need a new one each year. I love receiving pretty chopsticks & hashioki, also ocha cups or even donburi bowls with lids. Little Japanese serving dishes are cute & useful too. If you have room, hanten can be a wonderful gift for someone you know .... or even yukata, if you know their size!

My japanese friend has brought me several charming little gifts, one was a set of two table mats with contrasting serviettes.and the last time she gave me a beautiful black lacquered tray with marvelous crysanthemums painted on it.

Whatever you give them will be sure to please!

But the best gift of all is your friendship and affection!
