LiveScience has a "top 10 enviornmental technology" thing, and there were things with wind farms, solar panels, etc.. but the number one was turning "pretty much any carban based material" into petrolium...how does that help the enviornment? doesnt that struff hurt the enviornment?

The point LiveScience is attempting to make is that they are using waste - so it cleans the environment.

It actually has nothing to do with environment... it's political and economical.

Less oil from the Middle East you need, the less power there is in the hands of unstable dictators and the more stable the world economy is.

Most of us use Petro daily, to make a living and take care of our families, sometimes it is a matter of life and death. Until we find a better way our needs are getting more needy everyday. Believe it or not but people are a part of the environment too.

As long as we do not shift from an oil based economy, we will need petrol to keep us going.
