I am technically just allergic to peanuts but my allergist told me to stay away from all types of nut and legumes because they are all related.

Probably not. Peanuts are a legume that is grown underground sort of like potatoes. It's not really a nut. True nuts, like almonds, pecans, and walnuts grow on trees, or at least shrubs, above ground. Thus, peanuts are very different from other kinds of nuts. People who are allergic to peanuts are allergic to the proteins in the peanuts. Those proteins are not present in other kinds of nuts because the other kinds of nuts are not at all closely related botanically.
That's why some people are allergic to nuts in general, but can eat peanuts (since they aren't really nuts). Or, they may be allergic to almonds, and to cherries as well (almonds and cherries are slightly related), but not to peanuts or walnuts. Then again, there are some people with numerous food allergies who are allergic to all nuts and peanuts as well. So when in doubt, it's good to test.

Not necessarily. All nuts are not from the same family. Peanuts are legumes. An allergy to peanuts might mean you were also allergic to soy beans/nuts etc. Pecans and walnuts are tree nuts.
I am allergic to walnuts and pecans but can eat all the peanuts I want.

I don't think it's a sure thing. You may be allergic to all nuts, or you may be allergic to some. It just depends.
If you're allergic to one food in a food group, you have a greater chance of being allergic to other foods, or all the foods in that group. If you're allergic to peanuts (which is a legume and not a nut), you may be able to eat almonds, but not other foods in the legume family.

It seems like people already answered this question pretty well, but I have allergies to pecans and hazelnuts and not peanuts. I was advised to stay away from peanuts 'just in case' of something, but technically, they are in a different family, so no.

Your meant to attend till a baby is two in the previous introducing any sort of nuts.on the grounds that they don't digest, the nuts may bring about constipation. I had requested my clinical professional about this on the grounds that I easily have a 2 a million/2 three hundred and sixty 5 days previous and a a million three hundred and sixty 5 days previous, I stuck my youngest eating my 2 three hundred and sixty 5 days previous sandwich. On that be conscious, it became a gross mess to clean up, and painful for my a million three hundred and sixty 5 days previous.

Through some very tedious scientific work, I have discovered this simple fact: sometimes people feel like a nut, sometimes they don't!! But seriously, I would imagine that there is a strong likelihood that one could be allergic to all nuts, and not just peanuts! What I tell everyone on this forum: PLEASE don't ask us important medical questions, cuz we don't know sh*t from shinola!! See a physician, would you please?! NEVER trust your health to Yahoo Answers!!

I'm allergic to eggs, milk products, shellfish, peanuts, wheat, corn and anything else that you can think of, but I eat almonds like crazy and they don't bother me at all.
