where can i find death notices from 1981 for free?

where can i find death notices from 1981 for free?
my dad died in 1981 when I was 3, i'm searching for information on his death, I know very little. He was in the Army but was on leave when he died in an auto accident out of state. If anyone can help, I'd appreciate it.

if you have his social security # you can look it up in the records for that county. I have been able to do the same on line...without using those pay sites.

go to the local newpaper company,they have a wonderfull library of these things,and it's free to look
