emmiting white light off the back of a vehicle is illegal in most states. If the bulb is working right, you can use use a clear red tape available at most auto parts stores until you can get the light fixed.

Yes, all of your car's safety equipment must be in working order. The first poster was correct. You get a fix it ticket.

It also falls under 24603(e) and 24252(a) of the vehicle code. So, they have you more then one way.
