I very highly recommend that you read the Humane Society of the United States' article "Coping With the Death of Your Pet", particularly its last question of Should I Get Another Pet? It can be found at http://www.hsus.org/pets/pet_care/coping_with_the_death_of_your_pet/ - g^2

Mann...It is soo hard. I lost a dog of mine last summer. It is difficult to get over the pain that you feel inside. I would have to agree that getting a new puppy helps but it doesn't make the pain leave. I just got a new puppy about a month ago and I feel like it has helped me get over the loss of my dog. Everyone is different...But you can start by thinking about the good times you had with the dog and try not to dwell on the fact that the dog has passed away. Sorry about your loss... It's terrible to loose something that is so close to you!

I cried for days after I found out that my dog had been put down while I was at school. Nothing could ease my pain but me, at least that's what my daddy said. You just learn how to get on by, that doesn't mean forgetting the good times. Just keep living and loving. Don't worry about forgetting and don't feel guilty that you keep living. Just think (laugh if you want but dont make fun of this), if your dog was your best friend, which he/she probably was, then he/she would wan tyou to keep living and loving even if they had to leave forever.

First, let me say, I am so, so sorry that you are going through this, and I wish I had an answer for you. Sniff. Like all grief, this too will pass. Not the grief, but the form it takes. You will go from thinking about it all the time, to thinking about it some of the time, and then to cherished memories. I believe this is God's way. I don't think you would ever want to truly forget..do you? Of course not. Actually, I would say embrace this time, cry, throw a fit, be angry, and then your own spirit will tell you what to do. God bless. And know you are not alone.

Time is your ally here - in time, the pain will ease. You can count on that. In the meantime, finding a new pet may be sound advice - remember, you're not trying to replace your lost pet, you're only trying to find a new friend to hang out with.

And there are lots of pets out there that could use a new friend. Try your local humane society or animal shelter.

At one time, I lost my cat. I went shopping, and brought home two kittens.

I would not avoid facing a pet's pass over and never rear pets.
What is born, must die. Accept it, and deal with it as a fact of life that we all have to face. What is important is the valuable time we've shared together, which has a place in our hearts that lasts.
Without our caring and love, our pets won't be more happier while living on this earth plane. We must thank each other for the precious moments.

The existence knows its timing.

The Joy that they bring to our lives and the peace that they teach us, makes the time that we have with them, worth the grief in losing them!
WoW... that's pretty philosophical...
I lost my dear doggy a few weeks ago and it is very hard... give it time before you get another one.. what I have found helpful is to volunteer my home to the local animal shelter for short term fosters... It is a huge help to the shelter and I know I am making a difference by helping other dogs... It helps to heal my broken heart to have the dogs around with out making a commitment that I am not ready to make yet!

It gonna be very hard time for everybody to get through. What I can tell you ..is that " Try to be strong and keep thinking that your dog is going to cross over rainbow bridge to be born in a better life..moreover he or she will never get pain anymore"

Go to the beach or pool with your BEST friend. Try to forget about it there,or go to the mall, Tell her that you may be sad and that if you are that it's just cause your dog died.
