It depends on how he said it. Whether he said it or not, it doesn't necessarily mean he's a control freak. If he said it in a disrespectful manner while you two were arguing and you didn't like it, let him know that him saying that makes you uncomfortable. If he cares about you, he'll respect that. If he continues to do it then that could be a sign that he's controlling after all. Definitely don't stick around when you see more than one sign of what you think is "controlling" like telling you what to wear.
On the other hand, if it said it while the two of you were joking around, it may show that he's getting comfortable with you. Hey, maybe that's how he jokes with his friends. It shouldn't be a big deal unless you don't feel comfortable with that either. If you don't, let him know and like I said before, if he cares about how you feel, he'll respect your feelings and not do it anymore.

A controlling person keeps you away from friends, family and the society. He wants everything done his way and nothing else. This is one of many signs of Domestic Violence. GET OUT of this relationship while its only been a few months. You'll regret it months down the road. I have seen or heard many bad stories about controlling people and it makes your life a bad dream. You'll develop low self-esteem and depression. Go to Yahoo seach and type in Domestic Violence. You'll get all your answers. I'm a survivor of Domestic Violence. Its not a pretty picture. Go with what your gut feeling tells you. Be safe not sorry.

just because he tells you to shut up doesn't mean hes a control freak, maybe you have a big mouth and he really wants you to shut up!
if someone is controlling you will know form the first minute you meet them. controlling people like to let you know how things will be. they are usually straight forward and say what they feel. If he gets mad when you don't do something he says or gets mad when you don't listen to him then you might start to worry but him telling you to shut up means you talk to much!

Yes it's also a sigh of a jerk who has no respect for you or what you have to say, whether it's a month after he knows you of 1 day, if someone tells you to shut up they're probably not a good person.

If he does it frequently - then yes.
Look on the internet for signs of an abuser or emotional manipulator.
