it seems like the only place where i have lots of nasty fat is on my thighs and on my butt. anyone know exercises so that i could lose a few inches off my hips?

what your really looking at is 2 different things 1. strengthening the muscles and 2. reducing body fat - you can't spot reduce, but as you lower your body fat%, you'll notice the biggest difference where you had the most fat

compound resistance exercises - machines or weights where there is flexion and extension at both the knee and hip joints - leg presses, machines, lunges, squats, deadlifts, etc - don't forget the rest of your body and core muscles

reduce body fat, which is a layer on the body and just happens to have accumulated more in your hips and butt, by a combination of resistance exercises, cardio and healthy eating....resistance exercise will strengthen the muscles and raise metabolism, cardio will burn fat (and stored glucose) and your metabolism will get a boost from smaller more frequent meals (don't skip breakfast)

Look into interval training. It is a combination of keeping your heart rate up through exercise, and then increasing it (pushing yourself as hard and fast as you can} for short intervals of 1 -2 mins. This method has been pr ooven to reduce body fat while increasing lean muscle 25% more than just ordinary cardio and weight training programs alone. You can do this thru cardio - there are settings to do this on elliptical machines. But you can also do it through weight lifting, by doing 2 -3 sets of a light weight on several machines working one area of the body (upper body, or lower) every other day. However, you are only allowed a maximum break of 1 min. between each ma chine. I know you want to reduce fat in your thighs and butt, but there is no specific way of doing this. This "interval training", or as in the case of weight training, "the giant set", will overall increase you muscle tone, and reduce body fat all over.

Try doing some form of cardio regularly, for about 30 minutes as many days a week as you can - whether its walking, running, or some other type of exercise that keeps you moving constantly. Also, if you belong to a gym or plan on joining one, they usually have a weight machine that targets the inner and outer thigh muscles, it works amazingly for strengthening those muscles and increasing the fat burning in addition to cardio. Exercise and burn off more calories than you take in. There are dozens of exercises for specific areas of the body also...those problem areas. Some of it is just genetics.....has to do with where you will put on the fat, stomache, butt or thighs.

Try some intense incline on the treadmill. Or also try the eliptical on a high incline. Do this at least three times a week for 50 minutes.

CARDIO!! A combonation of cardio and weight training every week will get rid of fat fairly quickly.

you can do some squats and some walking and running. Treadmill work helps also. let the muscle build up and decrease the fat
