People have very busy lives and do not take the time to just stay home and spend time with family. Everyone is running to sports, gymnastics, the gym or both parents are working.

Families are not as close today because many families no longer dine together. We have become so accustom to eating on the go that we no longer sit down and eat with one another. Family dinners are a time to sit and reflect on the day, your feelings, thoughts, ect. In order to regain that closeness we need to make an effort to spend more time with our families whether it is eating dinner together, walking as a family, going on an outing, or any other activity that will bring the family unit together to talk and work as one.

I think the main reason is that personal entertainment has over run our communitys... I mean right now I could be sitting at my sisters house visiting with herm and the family.. but insted im playing around online as I watch a movie and drinking a coke. People just have other things, (not to be confused with better things) to do than play a board game with the family.

I would say that families are not as close as they once were for a number of reasons

1) divorce rate
2) second and subsequent marriages
3) people having to move to a new area for better jobs/income
4) teenage pregnancy
5) drug/alcohol use
6) number of children in foster care who don't know the real meaning of family
7) family values have fallen to the wayside
8) disrespect in general for oneself and others
9) time, no one has any time for anyone else anymore

Those are just a few of my thoughts

Mostly because the reasons why people need close family ties are disappearing. Widespread prosperity, women's rights, affirmative action and universal education are just some of the ways in which government and popular action have given millions of people the option of independence from family.

Moms are not staying home to raise the kids any more as times have changed (single income is not enough to raise a family). Kids are being raised by there peers at school and by hanging out. Family values are not being taught at home because both parents are working and spend little time at home as a family.
