Because now, people are lazy and just expect things to be handed to them. And, unlike past eras, we now have automated items to do things for us that were once done by hand, such as typing, shopping, cars (I know, not done by hand, usually!), drive-thrus instead of walking into the shop, and etc.
And, it's also becoming increasingly difficult to walk wherever without worrying about huge traffic lanes and tons of traffic, so people have come to rely more on their cars.

We no longer have to 'milk cows' to get our MILK; we have machines to do our work for us -- such as dishwasher; washers and dryers; I remember my Grand-ma - scrubbing clothes on a wash board and using a large black pot -to wash clothes; - with clothes dryers-- we no longer have to hang out our clothes on clothes lines.

Most people are too lazy coz they are too fat coz they eat too much McDonalds and junk.
