There is no new 'increase' in slang and filler words in English. Such words constantly arise and fall out of popularity within all languages.
There are certainly individuals who don't use the whole range of words that are available to them and that they know, but that is not a reflection on the language, only on a person.

This is a really interesting question.
The English language is difficult to master, and can be a beautiful and very effective language when used correctly...
And part of the beauty of the language IS the slang... all languages evolve through vernacular use. The English language is no different...
For example, Stephen Colbert invented the word "truthiness" to describe the way the Bush adminstration trades in the truth... it's not a real word, but it perfectly describes the point Colbert was trying to make...
The English language is so plyable that it is highly effective.

English, when spoken correctly with proper grammar....is an effective tool for literal explanation. Westernized languages are great for giving precise explanations of subjects/events/and so forth.
Eastern languages such as Chinese, Japanese, Greek, or Hebrew for example are used a bit more..loosely. By that I mean that the particular tones, writing symbologies, and words can mean multiple different things.
Ex. the word "go" in Japanese has over 50+ different meanings....
But English as a slanged and now horrendously poorly spoken language in the US is lousy for communication by and large.

Sometimes there are generation gaps--older adults can't necessarily understand younger generations' slang, "like", etc.--but this is because English is the most dynamic language on the planet, used in dozens of countries as a primary language and almost every other one as a second language, and it is constantly changing.
It is pretty effective at allowing a majority of the planet to communicate with each other. Can you think of any other language that is so widely "effective"? (What other language is going to help you conduct business and travel in so many countries?)

"NO!!! The English language is gorgeous, and when used properly, it is a BEAUTIFUL method of communication!"
it should be:
NO!! The English language is gorgeous, and, when used properly, is a BEAUTIFUL method of communication!
If you're going to tote proper English as gorgeous, why not try using it? Learn your appositives, or cut them out all together:
NO!! The English language is gorgeous. When it is used properly it is a BEAUTIFUL method of communication!
* I think that English is still effective, but I think English speakers need to get over themselves. Learn another language; everyone who doesn't speak English needs to learn English to succeed anyhow. So why not have some empathy?

Stop trying to immitate the bad grammer of your friends and peers, read a few books and you will begin to go places those who refuse to get out of the 'hoods slang' ever dreamed of. English is almost spoken everywhere because it is such a useful language for business.

No. It is very effective like any other modern language.
Modern languages evolve as the people itself does.
