Do you think you would like it if someone held you by the back of the neck? I don't think they like it and I don't think they are relaxed. That is the only way you can control your cat.
If they are fighting, grab the back of their neck. If you need to give them a pill, grab them by the back of the neck. It's not relaxation, it is control. Cats aren't used to being controlled, but their Mom's did this early on to control them, not relax them. I personally have never seen a cat act like they enjoy it.

I wouldn't carry them around this way, if they are bigger than I think it is 6 pounds. It can damage them. You can use it to pick them up briefly and then support the rest of their body. I don't think a cat enjoys being held by its scruff, I think it is just a learned reflex that it displays.

As long as you hold them by their scruff and not by their neck! If you have trouble giving your cat meds or brushing it, hold it by the scruff and the cat will behave. They learned to be submissive to their mom.

Yes, that's what their mothers do when they are young. They love it because it feels like they are back with mom.
