I love God so much. And I love music. Music is an art. When most artist create music I'm sure that they don't sit down and say I'm making this music for only a certain type of people. Musicians write how they feel. I'm a christian and I'm not one of them christians that just go to church on Sundays. I have a personal relationship with God. If you come to my house and look among my more than 400 CDs you will find R&B, Gospel, Rap, Bounce, Alternative, Pop, Country. I love music. But that doesn't make me any less of a christian. As long as I don't put music before God. And as your christian walk grows, some of the things that you used to listen to and do you won't do them no more. It's all about your strength in God. And you showed that you were weak because you let other people dictate how much you love God. I don't care whats going on don't let nobody keep you from hearing the word of God.

some music really do have an effect if you're weak-willed and easily influenced. But since you're not, then i think it is okay. Some Churches just do not want to take any chances. I think dark and light cannot go together. When you follow the light, you must no longer follow the dark. So if the church does not agree with the "dark" words (profanity, curses, depressed suicidal, angry lyrics) these rock music used, then i think it is normal. I don't think that they have anything against the rock music itself, mostly probably the lyrics. I love to hear Christian rock music.

Personally I think that a true christian would not be listening to things of that nature. We are suppose to fill our hearts with things that are of God.
Don't get me wrong I love the music you listed above too. But when I became a christian I had to quit listening to that music.
I believe music is a way of expressing our true feelings. If you are trying to live right then I would suggest that you let go of the music you listen to now and find some christian rock.
It is better to be hot or cold than lukewarm.

The Scriptures say that "by your fruits you shall know them" refering to the sheep of God's flock. All people are hypocrites at 1 point or another but that is NOT a very good reason 4 not going to church. As for your personal choice of music, etc,..the Scriptures say that we are to think on whatever is good, noble, pure trustworthy..etc Philippians 4:8 If what you put into your thoughts is "garbage" then that is what will come out of your heart.
Luke 6:45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.
Sorta like the old saying: "you are what you eat" ..that also applies to our lives,,,"you are the sum total of your experiences" If you can honesty say that you would listen to that music with the Lord Jesus by your side...then it is to Him alone that you must answer...but personally..I would not wanna be in your shoes.

I too love rock music, Sometimes I feel guilty listening to nine in nails. I don't think I am a bad Christian and neither are you. It is to bad you stopped going to church. I go to church for myself and my children (My daughter listens to Fort Minor, Green Day and Neo). As long as they make good choices and don't hurt anybody else then more power to them. I also take my children to Hemp Fest and show them what is out there, how it can help ill people and how our government controls it/us. I feel all of our choices are between us and God. He has a different plan for each of us and maybe listening to these bands is in your plan.

It can reflect your beliefs, but usually, it reflects your openness and understanding of things.
Just because you like Hard Rock with some Dark Lyrics doesn't mean you hate god.
Those christians who say those things to you are insecure in their faith, so they require absolution that what they believe is right.

Alice in Chains is not dark.
No, it doesn't. I like some Christian-rock bands but I'm not Christian. As long as their lyrics don't piss me off.
