Yes, New York City is made up of five "boroughs", whic hare Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, the Bronx, and Staten Island.

Manhattan is indeed an island, as is Staten Island. Queens and Brooklyn are part of Long Island.

Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Staten Island, and Queens are the 5 boroughs that make up New York City.

But when people think of NYC, they usually mean Manhattan. Yes, its really an island - you can circle it in one of those day cruises they offer.

Yes Brooklyn, Manhattan,Queen are all in New York City. They are burroughs. I would say Manhattan is an island because it is surronded by water on all sides but it is not an island such as Hawaii or Ireland.

I would Compare New York to London in which you have all the little areas such as Chelsea, Wanstead, nottinghill. They are all cities within the big city of London

First, Yes, they are.

I don't know how many of these areas there are, but, they are basically neighborhoods or districts, cities within a city. Most cities have places like this. Phoenix, AZ, for example, has neighborhoods such as Encanto, Tovrea, Arcadia, Alhambra, Sunnyslope, etc. Seattle has First Hill, The U District, the International District, Pioneer Square, etc.

Yes, Manhattan is really an island.

Staten Island is legally part of the City of New York but is unlike any of the other boroughs because it is suburban and until 1965 the only way you could get to Staten Island was by ferry. In 1965 the Verrazzano-Narrows bridge was built connecting it to Brooklyn and then by highway to the rest of the city. As a result of its connection to the rest of the city by bridge the population of Staten Island went from approx. l00,000 to 450,000 people. However, it is the smallest in population of the boroughs. There was a movement by Staten Islanders about l0 years ago to secede from New York City but it failed. Staten Island has the highest per capita income of any of the boroughs and its residents felt that it was paying for the rest of the city. It is also the whitest borough in the city and the most conservative politically.
