Look for a food that does NOT have "by products" in the ingredients list or you'll be paying a lot of money for garbage. Personally, I like Nutro - it has no by products and is reasonably priced and my dogs have done fine on it for more than 10 years. They make canned and dry dog foods for puppies and adults. Any changes in diet should be made slowly to avoid diarrhea - gradually mix more new food in with what you've been using until he's switched over.

First, let me say Science Diet is antiquated. Dose any one read the ingredients???? Royal Canin is a really good premium food and they tailor make the food for specific breeds and by size. There mini dog food should do well with any small breed, and as I said they do make some small breed specific foods; ie chihuahua, poodle, Yorkie, etc... Most foods that are available in the grocery store are not good quality. Good luck

As the person stated above it would be Royal Canin or another brand called Nutro. Both of these are very natural, I have done a quite abit of research in looking for dog food without a by-product, since I have four very small breed dogs. I do know that petsmart and petco do have these, but they do not carry them in grocery stores.

You will not find high quality foods in the supermarkets or in the large pet stores. You need to go to the smaller, higher quality pet stores. Whole Dog Journal puts out a list every year of the best foods. Some of them are Solid Gold, Chicken Soup for the Dogs Soul, Spot's Stew, and Merrick. You can also feed her some of your own food as long as it is healthy - such as chicken, turkey, lamb, veggies such as tomatoes, avocados, potatoes, peas, carrots, asparagus, fruits such as bananas, plums, apricots, watermelon, starches such as rice, potatoes and pasta. Do NOT feed chocolate, raisins, grapes, macadamia nuts or onions.
