Is it through hard work in performing really well or through some secret means or both?

The famous stage is rarely through hard work, although that can come at the beginning of the actor's career. Fame has a lot to do with luck, often having the right connections, and that "It" factor - having the right audience appeal. ULTRA fame is created through publicity.

I think it's more of luck than hard work. You can be very hardworking but you dun have the luck to breakthrough, people dun even know who are you.

Luck, luck and more luck. Talent has so little to do with it. Just look at Tom Cruise or Madonna.
