I'm not asking for an explanation of the gods, I am just curious as to how folks define spirit in a meaningful non-nonsense way.

energy is not the definition of spirit, because energy is physical, and spirit is non-physical

>>The Spiritual REALM work's on Higher LAW's.
Science cannot explain those law's
_____________________________
Why couldn't science explain those laws? Are they inconsistent? Are they random? Can they are can they not interact with the universe? Do they consist of cause and effect? Are they observable?

>>This realm is beyond the examination of our "science" because it has nothing to do with our "reality."<<
This seems to be the best response so far. Since spirit only exist in the i-magi-nary world of "magi-c thinking, it is not part of our collective "reality", but only part of the individual "reality" of the gullible, over-imaginative, or the "mad". Sp the scientific field most useful to explaining what "spirit" is would be not physics, but psychology. That is why spirit is no more objectively verifiable then any other imaginary concept.

Science only seeks to understand what is real, it does not have or need tools for the mystical or superstitious except of course for Occum's Razor.
A spirit is a product of imagination, nothing to prove its existance exists in the world, that is why science is unconcerned with it.

There isn't any scientific definition of "Spirit" because God as spirit lives in the realm of the supernatural (a dimension that is beyond our comprehension). This realm is beyond the examination of our "science" because it has nothing to do with our "reality."
You do yourself a disservice to try to pin God down. In the first place He is not human in ANY respect. He is more than we are in the same sense that we are more than rocks are. When was the last time that a rock successfully figured some aspect of your being out?
The dimension spiritual beings exist in is also called "eternity" because it is a state of being in which time does not and has never existed.

I just looked up the word science on m-w.com. One of the definitions is the following, word for word:
"such knowledge or such a system of knowledge concerned with the physical world and its phenomena"
My understanding of science fits in with this as being concerned with the physical world. If spirits are a non physical reality, then I don't believe science as we know it today can "define" it, or prove it. Isn't science limited to our body's sense perceptions?
It's interesting that people say god is a spirit too....

It's a parallel Universe thing.
The Physical REALM and the Spiritual REALM.
Science work's great explaining the Physical REALM.
The Spiritual REALM work's on Higher LAW's.
Science cannot explain those law's.

Nobody has yet said about the subconscious part of the spirit ..back part of the .brain. This part receives messages from those who are in one orientation or another, depending who we are calling or praying to...service to self or service to others... our true motives are known, that is why some prayers do not get answered as it is not forwarded on to our thoughts.
Deja Vu ...remembering the past lives
http://www.zetatalk.com/myths/m14.htm
when the shutters are opened just for a while.(A lad at work has happen to him) but in general we are not allowed to remember past incarnations if we have and old spirit in us.( about 1.7 billion have reincarnated spirits on earth).
I have a young .lady friend in Bulgaria, she has a really ancient spirit and very deep and knowledgeable
My self I may have a what the zeta call a walk in or crowded incarnation...(this happened at end of 2000) and they the two are of different orientations...at least the walk in one is decidedly service to self. where as the original one is may be not yet be decided.

Thought-provoking question :)
Consider matter-energy as having the following forms
1) Energy
2) Matter, with the following forms
a) solid
b) liquid
c) gas
d) plasma
Spirit is a third substance (if you consider matter and energy as different substances) or a second substance (if you consider matter and energy as a single transmutable substance) with specific properties which are different from those of matter-energy.
Spirit is a substance that can be found in association with matter-energy, but can also exist apart from matter-energy.
Spirit can manifest itself by the presence of personhood, volition, will, freedom of choice.
Neither matter nor energy by themselves have personhood, or volition, or will, or freedom of choice.
Cordially,
John
