It is becoming apharent that in recent years teens and young adults are becoming more and more lazy with their typing skills. What is worse is the recent phonetical spelling of words, and the practice in typing in the so called "leet" style. When is this going to end. If you forget one day how to properly formulate words and sentences on paper and online, who will teach YOUR children how to spell??

Some of the most intelligent words I've heard spoken on Yahoo Answers!! My father was very attentive to our education, and, hopefully, it has paid off somewhere, somehow. Since my kids mom and I divorced when our kids were 1 and 2 years old, and she did not have the academic background I have, my kids suffered from it. I have a lot of guilt feelings for it, but hopefully they'll recover from their mom's and my immaturity which lead us to divorce, and maybe they'll learn REAL English instead of this trash I so often see here and elsewhere on the internet. God Bless you.

Hi friends! Are we over reacting a bit on this topic?! The reason why we feel so is; to twist a language to a shorter version or ''leet style'' or whatever form it takes, isn't it important that one should have a good understanding of the language?!Otherwise all you end up writing is some words in a jumble. Now by leet style if that jumble begins to take an artistic form, that also requires some skills. Either way, you need to know your language well. And then, the curriculum language will always remain in its normal form otherwise too much of literature will have to be bend to fit in! And that would be a real challenge for the language in any form. As of now it is only happening for convenience sake and time saving as of in everything else in this life. To the extreme what could happen is that there is born yet another slang of language and a dialect from which eventually a few words might sneak into the dictionaries and encyclopedias!

Sure you got to the point, I can say that an 80% of the teenagers and the kids now are learning this "short type method", which is really bad for the language.

The worse thing, is that artists, and the media support this, including brands and commercials, who are the ones that should change this bad habit. In the next years we are not going to have an English, and we are going to have a new adapted language that not every people would understand.

Teach your kids the right English, and do not support the short language!

You are correct. Everyone should strive to learn the English language so they can properly teach the next generation.

Hi, Nikolai At a tender age, children absorb any language. Tutoring is probably the best, and a lot of immersion in these languages at home - preferably you speaking with them in these languages. __ Hope this helps!

Obviously not teachers, because people who go through school would have learned by now.

Hopefully, the schools. I am a first generation American and my parents spoke English but not well. I learned English well enough in school to teach it.

It all start w/ the parents. If they allow their children to use slang -- what do they think the outcome will be?? It's obvious.
