I'm a collector for a drug testing company. Generally, the court is looking for any illegal drug of abuse in your system. They are generally grouped into 5 catagories that are regularly tested for: THC (pot), Cocaine, Amphetamines and methamphetamines ( meth is after it is burned) Opiates, and PCP. If you are on medication, it is posible for them to single it out in a more comprehensive test. Instant tests just show presence or no presence. I've seen ambien come up on an instant test as positive for opiates, only to be revealed as a prescription in further testing. But even a prescription drug can be reason enough to revoke your probation if it is not YOUR prescription.

Essentially, they are looking for indications that you are taking drugs, illegal drugs, therefore, if you are taking prescription drugs.... your own for which you have a legitimate need that are NOT prohibited by the conditions of your probation, you'll be fine.
However, violation of the law...eg. taking illegal drugs, drugs or alcohol if you are restricted, or those that have not been legitimately proscribed to you by a real and registered physician can result in a TECHNICAL VIOLATION of the conditions of your probation.
Your probation could be revoked and you could find yourself in jail or prison.. depending on your offense.
Or, you could find yourself with additional conditions of probation being added to your supervised release.
Probation is a suspension of sentence... not necessarily a get out of jail card ... think of it this way... whatever the sentence was it is now SUSPENDED over your head just like a big freaking boulder of a rock or a sword... mess up and the rock/sword drops and the only thing under it is you... and you get "squished" by the courts and they slice off that pound of flesh they said you owed them... in terms of days, weeks, months, or years in jail/prison.
The court gave the person on probation a choice... its decision time every time you pee in the cup....
