I agree that without a higher authority's say, that everything is relative and in a democratic society up to the majority. Fortunatly, the majority of the founders believed in the same moral code as the Bible as used it as a basis to define societal norms.

I've often wondered this very same question. If it were not for a God, then how would one determine what is morally right. I believe that it is the oppinion of the society that should determine what is wrong or right. If one person out of 100 thinks that something is offensive, the other 99 people don't think that the material is offensive, and therefore the majoriy rules and the material should be considered not offensive and that one guy should deal with it. Thats kind of a half-assed example, but I think it makes sense.

I am a Believer in GOD.
Think about all those People, hundred's and thousand's of year's ago, who didn't Believe in GOD, but yet, they protected their Family and friend's, they knew basically what was right, even though they got into their Religious beliefs, and did some out-right thing's wrong according to Absolute TRUTH. I call this Common-Sense, I Believe that GOD put in Human Being's the basic's of Right and Wrong, and then the Enemy of Man get's his,her mind twisted up on different thing's and they do wrong thinking that it is right. I have to think this because if it wasn't true, the Human Race wouldn't a made it this far. Example, heathen's who protect their family, and then turn right around and sacrifice one of their own to a false god, thinking it is an honorable thing to do.

The "judge not" crowd usually consists of people who don't know much about the bible.
It is always a good idea to learn who wrote the scripture and who the initial audience was. Remember in the 1st century, Jews thought they would enter heaven simply by being Jews. Even when they converted to Christianity they thought they had a favored status over others. Because of this many of them were not sharing the gospel. They had judged other as not worthy to hear it. This is why they were told not to judge others. They still were to judge right from wrong. They just did not have the right to deem someone as unworthy to hear the gospel.

Old thinkers called it the law of human nature or the law of rigth and wrong. The Idea was that, just as all bodies are governed by the law of gravitation, and organisms by biological laws, so man had his law-with this great difference, that the body could not choose whether it obeyed the law of gravitation or not, but a man could choose either to obey the law of human nature or disobey it.
Aristotle:
"This is the quality peculiar to man, wherein differs from other animals, that he alone is endowed with perception to distinguish right from wrong, justice from injustice."
C S Lewis
"Think of a country where people are admired from running away in battle, or where a man felt proud of double crossing all the people who had been kindest to him. You might just as well try to imagine a country where two and two made five"
Plato:
"Good people do not need laws to tell them to act responsibly, while badpeople will find a way around the laws"
Marcos Aurelius
"We ought to do good to others as simply and naturally as a horse runs, or a bee makes honey, or a vine bears grapes season after season without thinking of the grapes it has borne."
Voltaire:
"All sects are different, because they come from men; morality is everywhere the same because it comes from God"
Romans 3:20 NIV
"No one will be declared rightous in God's sight by observing the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of sin"
Napoleon Bonaparte:
"I know men; and I tell you that Jesus Christ is no mere man. Between Him and every other person in the world there is no possible term of comparisson".
Benjamin Franklin:
"He who shall introduce into public affairs the principles of primitive christianity will change the face of the world.."
1 Corinthians 4:5 NIV
"Judge nothing before the appointed time; wait till the Lord comes. He will bring to light what is hidden in darkness and will expose the motives of men's hearts."

It is humanely wrong. Let's leave God out of it and even other people. Would you feel good raping someone? Could you go to bed at night hearing that girl scream "no" and "stop" over and over? Would you want someone to rape your sister, or your wife (or girfriend)? I don't think there is EVER justification for rape. now murder, well lets just say that if anyone ever raped my daughter I would ill them. I feel that is right. Others may not. I would say most people nowadays use there own judgement which is tainted by that of church and society, sometimes for the better sometimes for the worse. Some people do not feel what is right or wrong and because of the decline of "right" in society and less activism in church they feel justified in whatever they do (thus the much higher crime rate now vs. say 1950).

Thanks to a nibble of an apple in a sweet little garden, we were given knowlage. That knowlage allows us to know the difference between right and wrong. That, along with the guidence of the Bible, and yes, only the guidence, allows us the authority to judge that which is right or wrong. The Bible is here to be nothing more than a point of reference and a guide to live by. It should not be taken overly seriously.

The New Testament teaches that all are sinners and and have fallen short of the glory of God thus God in human form Jesus came to pay the price for all who accept him..Now we live under the grace of Jesus those of us who accept him not under the penalty of law which wages are death..ultimately God will judge all those who accept Christ will be found clean as Christ is perfect...those without Christ will be judged according to there deeds..Now of course man has laws and we are taught to keep them so long as they do not go against Gods laws...As Christians how we Judge one another is how God will judge us...as in judge not lest ye be judged....Does not mean that the penalty of law of government or mans law is not to be followed give to Cesar that which is Cesar's....I live by the bible but I don't vote for moral laws I think God granted all free will and i dont think we should legislate our morality on all people.

There is right and wrong in the BIBLE. IT DOSE say in the new testament " by their fruits ye shall know them. LIKE a fruit tree. MEN are known by their life and actions. THAT'S not judging that's just recognizing if they are good or evil. ACTIONS speak louder then words too.

Your point is good; without an absolute authority we will have moral chaos. But you are not quite correct on one point. Read Matthew 6:1ff; it does not say NOT to judge, but not to judge others who are doing something wrong when you are doing something worse!

Civil law is set to achieve efficiency in production. Rape and murder create fear and panic which lead to inefficiency and loss of group cooperation. Humans are more effective as collaborators and we lose this ability if we must live in fear. Rape and murder are wrong by necessity.
