Hiyaaa! I know this one! It's the Dom cathedral in Cologne Germany. It was the tallest building in the world before the Eiffel tower. It is a twin spire, stone building, with the most ornate carving...It's unbelievable. It took something like 1300 years to be completed. It houses religious artifacts and treasures. I walked up the spire up a spiral stone staircase that lasted forever. When the allies attacked Cologne in WWII, no building with 4 walls standing was left. The entire city was decimated, except for the cathedral. The Allies left it alone completely. The whole city was gathered up and piled like a mountain a short distance away, and the city was rebuilt. It's a pretty nice place.

According to Guinness World Records, the church with the tallest spire in the world is that of Ulm Münster, the Protestant Cathedral of Ulm, Germany. The building is early Gothic and was begun in 1377. The tower was not completed until 1890, and is 528 feet (161 meters) high.

The book also makes mention of the Chicago Temple/First United Methodist Church in Chicago, Illinois, which consists of a 22-story skyscraper surmounted by a steeple cross at 568 feet above street level.
