Yes , almsot all guard units are rotating in and out of Iraq.
Ask the unit he would be in if they have been there in last 3 years. Or at least if they were on support duties near or somewhere in the middle east

Honestly, pretty good. I would tell him to join the Navy or Coast Guard.
Prior to the attacks against the United States on September 11, 2001, the National Guard's general policy regarding deployment was that Guardsmen would be required to serve no more than six months overseas at any time. Due to strains placed on active duty units following the attacks, the possible deployment time was increased to 18 months. Additional strains placed on military units as a result of the invasion of Iraq further increased the amount of time a Guardsman could be deployed to 24 months. Current Department of Defense policy is that no Guardsman will be involuntarily activated for a total of more than 24 months (cumulative) in one six year enlistment period (this policy is due to change 1AUG2007, the new policy states that soldiers will be given 24 months between deployments of no more than 24 months, individual states have differing policies). The Army National Guard is composed of 325,000 Soldiers

All branches have a chance to see Iraq. Even the Coast Guard is being sent over to help with the ports. Navy too are starting to send more and more people. Army national guard is part of the army. So yes he will probably be sent.

Yes, there is a good chance that he will serve in Iraq. But don't let that be the only factor he considers. The military is a great opportunity for a lot of people. Try to push him toward college or something else. But if he really wants to serve, let him.

I'd say that unless he is willing to go to Iraq there is no reason to join. That is what a solider's job is. I know you are concerned as a parent but the military also has a lot of benefits. My boyfriend went to Iraq and is very proud of his combat experience. Although it was hard he worked through it and learned alot, plus served his country.

Chances are he will do a tour or two, just a word of caution about the recruiters..they will promise anything but they deliver very little. The MOS (job) he signs up for will have no direct connection to state side duty. I wish your son the best, and if he decides to join then I thank him for his service.

I say do no longer do it. i grew to change into energetic responsibility Air stress safe practices Forces for 5 years and that is in evaluation to what the recruiter is telling you i'm particular. they're contracting out the regulation enforcement and safe practices factors of the interest and each and each and every of the safe practices Forces will do now is practice and setting up. quite you may be the infantry for the Air stress. Now i'm no longer putting forward do no longer connect. Heck, if i'd have picked the striking interest i'd though be in!!! I loved it in countless options even in spite of the indisputable fact that it quite is all replacing for the worst IMO. there are a form of fantastic jobs available contained in the defense force, yet once you pick to be a cop i tips starting to be to be to be a member of the military. My brother is a cop contained in the military (M.A. stand for draw close at palms) and they by technique of no ability see sea duy till finally they volunteer for it. All they do is regulation enforcement and gate responsibility.

There is a chance now that american troops are being over stretched in the middle east and i have heard that the national guard is supposed to stay in america to protect it so it just goes to show that america is running low on troops

depends on his job and the unit he is put in. if hes really lucky hell be put in a unit that has already been to Iraq a few times and has a few years before they can be deployed again. however he could also be taken from his unit and paired with another unit and sent to Iraq due to what ever his job is. there is a good chance that hell go but theirs a chance that hell get lucky and not have to go.

My son just joined the Marines yesterday -- I'm resigned to the fact that he will see Iraq or Iran or some place people are mad. Yours probably will too.
