Even if the government is the cause of a mandatory seatbelt law, are we really this stupid to bicker over the fact that we HAVE to protect ourselves because we're not intelligent enough to do so on our own? Some people are just too arrogant or stupid to wear one even though it's proven to protect you versus not wearing one, government involvement or not. And besides, if someone hits me head-on, I don't want their dead body projecting through my windshield and possibly killing me, just because they were too dumb not to wear a seatbelt or defiant simply because the goverment says you have to. Clueless people, I swear.

The reason people are asked to wear seat belts is because the state could be sued by people who are too stupid to wear seat belts. So sad but so true. I think it is sad how sue happy people have become.

Just how many of you nimrods understand what communism is? For those of you with a grasp of politics, do you understand that true communism does not exist in our world? You can debate all day and all night about the government's role in mandating seat belts versus the personal choice of wearing one or not, but just exactly where does communism fit into this picture?

I believe that it should be a person's own choice, but if it weren't a law, people wouldn't take it seriously and wearing a seatbelt will save lives many times more than not. I don't believe one bit that it has anything to do with communism or the gov't controlling us. I don't imagine a big gov't official standing on the side of the road saying 'Hell yeah! You see him wearing his seatbelt? Next step is world domination!!!'

The insurance lobbyists got in there. More people are hurt when they don't wear seat belts, therefore, more medical expense involved, bigger pay outs that the insurance companies have to make. It's wise to wear one, but I agree that it should be an individuals decision.

I agree with everyone else. I think it's stupid, though, that states even had to make this law. As Carlos Mencia (Mind of Mencia) said, if people don't want to wear seat belts that will save their lives, then they deserve to die.
