This has just been happening this year. I feel as if I am going to cry for no reason and I have to fight back tears if I am in public. Sometimes nothing triggers it. I don't think I am depressed. It just happens alot.

I get that way at certain times. It can be hormones, like with Pre-menstrual syndrome, or it can be a symptom of depression (but doesn't necessarily have to be). It can just be an intense compassion that you have. If you are crying over other peoples' suffering, it can just mean you are a very sensitive and compassionate person.

Hi Twiggie 22,

I would say your reaction is due hormones, depending on your age it could be peri-menopausal symptoms. Otherwise, I would attribute to some changes in your life: i.e. moved, new love interest, job, loss.
If you feel it's interfering in your life some way, I would talk it over with a friend or counselor. Otherwise I wouldn't worry about it. Crying is a natural outlet for your emotions.

There could be a number of reasons for this, it could be hormomal. You don't say your age but if you are in your teens or your 40's or 50's it could certainly be hormomal.
Equally you could be suffering from depression. One of the things about mental illness is that the sufferer is usually the last to know that they are ill. If you lack motivation, have disturbed sleep, appetite changes etc chances are you could be depressed.
Why don't you visit your doctor and discuss your symptoms, they will be able to help.

I think you should get your tear ducts checked out. seriously, you could have some overactive ducts, or allergies.but to be sure, maybe take note of when, where, and what is going on when you start to cry for a couple of weeks or a month, just to see if their are any consistancies between cries which were not seen before.

If you are not watching a sad movie or witnessing a heartfelt interchange between loved ones in the mall, on the sidewalk, on the freeway, etc., you may want to speak with a professional. Seeking a professional will help you get to the root your feelings.

I sometimes do this too you know.

Normally I'm just like lying in bed or lying down somewhere and suddenly a tear or a few tears roll down my face.

It's like totally random though.

I guess it's just normal really.

You should definitely consult your GP and they will ask you the right questions for the correct diagnosis but don't leave it too long or you may forget how it feels not to be sad and your symptoms may become more severe... don't suffer and don't be afriad to ask for help...

Maybe you have a glandular problem? Do you feel it from your heart or it just happends? Ask a medical doctor first and see what the doc says. I know, call 'ask a nurse'.
