1. Congratulations on your quitting, You sound like me..
I smoked for 45 years and quit cold turkey a year ago.
I gained 20 pounds which everybody called happy pounds.
I didn't, I hated it. So, now I started to exercise and weight train
I lost 17 of those pounds, just by cutting out a lot of simple carbs, like bread, buns and donuts(my weakness) and drinking 1-2 liter
of water a day. After I come back from my holidays I will join Curves. in the meantime drink green tea, sweetened with Stevia
(available in Health Food Stores, cut down on other sweets and write down everything you put into your mouth and try to stay in the 1000 to 1200 calorie limit for the day. Eat lots of Salads and a trick I learned at Weight Watchers eons ago, dip your fork into Salad dressing and then in the salad, this way you control the dressing. Good Luck, its hard and its summer and ice cream time, but just persisting for a couple weeks and you will see a difference.

Now You know how many You smoke so every day just give yourself less and less but don't go over what you have to smoke then usually you will find that the cigarettes get less and less Until you are able to Quit Say day one 45 Day two 40 Day three 35 etc... Good Luck This is how my Aunt Quit

Everyone gains weight after they quit smoking.
The nicotine is, or in your case, was an appetite suppressant.
The South Beach Diet is very popular, so I'd expect that it would be effective.

Try to drink a full glass of water before each meal. Truth is, most people won't stay on a "fad" diet. You'll end up starving yourself and then eating more later. If you drink water before a meal, you will get full faster and therefore you will eat less. After a while, (it won't happen overnight) your stomach will shrink (literally) and it will take less and less to fill you up. You're still eating the same foods, just in smaller portions.

Weight Watchers teaches healthy eating habits. It is not a diet, it is a way to eat good, tasty food and lose weight. Good luck and good work on ridding yourself of the addiction. Done some things in that area myself.

it is VERY frustrating.I'm having the same problem........30 lbs.in 3 mos.!I have began smoking again and Iam very ashamed because I'm 5 mos. p.g.!
I wish I had the answer..I will check back often in hopes that somebody else will!
