If the world could be instantly converted to a Utopia-like place, where every single human had everything they needed (but no one had extra and greed was outlawed)---- Would you prefer that situation, or prefer it to be like it is now: some people have more than enough, some have just enough, and some don't have enough.

This is not a political statement of any kind. Just wondering if anyone would sacrifice their "extra" money so that everyone could have enough to get by.

I'd choose the Utopia. I don't need anything extra. I don't get pleasure from possessions, it's other things in life that bring the real pleasure. Too bad that few people can see that and instead go buy more useless crap that they think will bring them happiness, but doesn't.

I'd feel much more comfortable knowing that everyone was doing ok and had enough. It would feel great to live in a just world for once, where greediness, hunger and poverty (and probably along with those, wars) didn't exist.

I don't believe the world will ever see a Utopia but I will give you my impression this way.

Lyndon B. Johnson said that once you get elected President you have 100 day to accomplish as much as you can. After that 100 day everyone is out to replace you or otherwise bring you down!

There is an old Chinese saying that makes a related point: If you fill your Halls with silver & jade then you will soon find them hard to protect!

Power is a fleeting thing, virtue is not!

I'd like it as it is now, since a utopia is impossible. We live in a greedy world, and nothing we do will ever change that. You're asking people to give up their freedoms for the good of the entire community...which sounds good, but no one is willing to do that, though they might say that they are. And, that would defeat the American dream, would it not? Try reading "The Giver", and you will see what I mean.

Why even ask? I think everyone would choose utopia. Btw..I think the closest thing to utopia we have right now would be scandinavia...if only they would get rid of the lutefisk. :I

I prefer everbody to be poor, and me to be rich. That corresponds to a Gini coefficient of 1. That's utopia for me!

Utopia. If it was truly perfect then I wouldn't be missing anything anyways.
