This is not new. I help patients with this condition everyday. The thing that make it so aggressive also makes it very treatable through chemotherapy. Inflammatory breast ca shouldbe staged thru a PET/CT. I would get a second opinion because there are many doctors specializing in this type of cancer and having great succes treating thru chemo, herceptin, vit K, and radiation.

Good luck to your friend. It shows we need to continue to take care of ourselves. I saw a patient last week that was 17 with this condition. It is rare but it happens.

Inflammatory Breast Cancer is not new. Its just not as common as the other types of breast cancers. Its still considered an Invasive Ductal Carcinoma with Dermal Invasion. The problem is that inflammatory breast cancer displays itself as a rash on the breast (dermal invasion) Many doctors prescribe a topical cream to take care of it, but it doesn't go away. Its instinct to think of it as some sort of infection. It is not and is a really dangerous cancer. It must be taken care of immediately. Many times Neo- Adjuvant Chemotherapy is warranted prior to surgery. Stage 4 is the worse and means that is has metastasized to other parts of the body.

I saw this news program (I live in the state where it aired) and the inflamitory breast cancer is really scary. It looks like a bug bite.
