They are both important and interdependent. Facts learned about the body based on experiments done in outer space inform medical researchers. Caring about the lives and well being of humans provides the impetus to want to explore space and to carry humanity out into it. If we ever get to the point where we can only do one or the other than that probably means things have gotten so bad that it is not worth doing either.

Outer Space research (say on the Space Station) could provide a cure for cancer. However no one has died due to the lack of travel in outer space, and many people have died from cancer. Some of the many benefits from, or inspired, by the Space Program have helped in the study of cancer.
On the whole I would have to say a cure for cancer is more important, but we may never be able to cure it. Cancer comes from many things including radiation from outer space. We can't stop that. The Space Program helped us understand about Cosmic Rays. So I'm greedy and want both.

I think exploring new things and opening your mind is very so I'm going with sci-fi space. A cure for cancer is just as important but in a different way. I know there are people with cancer right now that would still pick space if asked this question, they want to keep exploring.

I believe space in the long run cause maybe just maybe one day we might find a planet that has the cure for cancer on it or a race superior to us may visit us one day when they think were ready that has better medical technology and curing cancer may be like taking a aspirin for a headache you never know...

to provide you an theory how we are doing with surgical operation, chemo, and radiation, indexed the following are the assistance from the ACS re: 5 year survivals - - 5 year survival for each style of maximum cancers sixty six% Breast maximum cancers 89% Colon maximum cancers sixty 5% Leukemia 50% Lung cancers 16% cancer ninety 2% Non-Hodgkin lymphoma sixty 4% Ovarian maximum cancers 40 5% Pancreatic maximum cancers 5% Prostate maximum cancers ninety 9% Rectal maximum cancers sixty six% Urinary bladder maximum cancers 80 one% observe that a 5 year survival isn't a remedy in all circumstances, even if that's an truly good start up. observe that over 60% of cancers (not mutually with dermis cancers) ARE already being cured. that's staggering what number of people ask about a "remedy for most cancers" - as even if that's one affliction. "maximum cancers" is a time period for over 2 hundred diseases. Many are curable now.
