Honey, some people believe their religious fairy tales, and others of us know that they're just symbolic metaphors! Funny how religion can make fools of people and true spirituality, can make Gods of us all!
Mother Earth + Father Sky = The Great Spirit

There is a ton of different ideas on how old the earth is among Christians. There is evidence that seems to indicate that the earth is only a few hundred thousand years old at the most. Look it up at a bookstore, and you will have better answers. But I wouldn't trust the website you are looking at. It may look nice and pretty, and seems to make sense, but it is a bunch of lies. Half of the stuff on there has been disproven, much of it by evolutionists themselves. And the rest is either not proven or very debatable.

The Bible in fact says the earth is quite previous, even comparing its age to God who has constantly existed. (Psalm ninety:2 & 102:25, etc.) The early church often occurring the winning view that the earth become in fact some thousands years previous. yet they did no longer believe the 6 days in Genesis a million have been 24-hour days. They believed the 6000 years, or possibly with, began with Adam. The youthful Earth view in recent cases has to have 24-hour days. Augustine additionally believed there become an instant start to the universe, yet there become a comfortable ingenious unfolding which continued for an undefined era. He believed the days have been now no longer 24-hour days, yet have been undefined instructions.

It has been roughly 2000 years since Jesus walked the earth. Go back 2000 more to the great flood of Noah. Go back 2000 more to Adam and Eve and creation. I had rather put my faith in that as counting tree rings. Carbon 14 method of dating things is only good for 6000 years. The people that do this know that. But,they won't tell you.

St. Augustine Hypothesis. If you want my theory, it is due that Adam and Eve lived in a parallel continuum, AKA, the Garden of Eden. Many eons occurred in the Universe; in the garden, time passed as usual, in which evolution had played its part, with the amoeba to neanderthal and etc. Adam and Eve were then expelled to Earth. There by that is why we know that Earth is 6000-7000 years old in our relation to the fall since that is around the earliest date of civilization, which would then constitute "History, not pre-history". But nonetheless the earth is much older. Remember, GOD MADE THE EARTH FIRST, then made man.

Believe it or not, from a 1654 publication by James Ussher, an Anglican Archbishop. Ussher basically added up all the biblical "begats", and arrived at a date of creation: 23 October, 4004 B.C. So, 4004 BC + ~2000AD = 6000 years.
As dumb as it sounds, this is the true source of that frequently cited date. It puts creation research into proper perspective.

Greetings!! Christians go to the Bible as their source. So far it has been 100% accurate in prophecy and archaeology. Even people who hate the Bible agree that Abraham existed. The ruins of Ur of the Caldees were found and are dated about 2400 B.C. It was about 1000 years before that, that Noah did the "Ark" thing. If the Old tesatment is about 4000 years and we add 2000 years since the death of Christ, we get 6000! I personally think it is around 10,000. Please see my web page at www.inthebible.org.

Any Christian who claims that the earth is 6,000 or so years old, shows his/her ignorance of the Word. The earth is millions of years old and the bible declares it if you know how to read it in the original languages.
There are three earth ages, we are in the second one, and evidence of the first earth age are all around us. The first earth age was the time spoken of in Genesis 1:1, II Peter 3, and Jeremiah 4:18 to the end of the chapter.
The first earth age was destroyed at the fall of Satan, in the Hebrew it is the "toho va boho", or the destruction, where by all animals and living forms on earth came to an end. The scientific evidence of this great cataclysm absolutely coincide with the biblical account. Prior to this toho va baho, the earth was a tropical paradise and was not off it's axis by a few degrees like it is now.
In Genesis chapter 1, where it says "the earth was void and without form", in the Hebrew it actually says that the earth BECAME toho va baho. Look at what "was void and without form" means in the Strong's concordance:
01961 hayah {haw-yaw} 1) to be, become, come to pass, exist, happen, fall out
1)
a) to happen, fall out, occur, take place, come about, come to pass
b) to come about, come to pass
2) to come into being, become
a) to arise, appear, come
b) to become
1) to become
2) to become like
8414 tohuw (to'-hoo); from an unused root meaning to lie waste; a desolation (of surface), i.e. desert; figuratively, a worthless thing; adverbially, in vain: KJV-- confusion, empty place, without form, nothing, (thing of) naught, vain, vanity, waste, wilderness.
922 bohuw (bo'-hoo); from an unused root (meaning to be empty); a vacuity, i.e. (superficially) an undistinguishable ruin: KJV-- emptiness, void.
The earth was not created void and without form, it BECAME this way when God destroyed the first earth age. If you'd like to know more, click on the link below.

They started with Adam and Eve, added up all the generations that they talk about in the Bible (all the boring "begats" in Gen 5) and came up with their approximations.
Men wrote the Bible (based on oral traditions), men interpret the Bible. It's devoid of scientific fact, but the New Testament does have some nice guidelines for living.

it is 7000 years of human history, not earth history.
the Bible shows that the earth and other prehuman creation can be as old as science says they are. It is humans that the Bible say have been here only 7000 years.
7000 years.
Got it!
Read Gen 1:1-31
THE MOST IMPORTANT THING TO REMEMBER IS:
The creative day is of course figuative. Not literal.
As 2Peter3:8 points out; 8.However, let this one fact not be escaping YOUR notice, beloved ones, that one day is with Jehovah as a thousand years and a thousand years as one day.,
Shows it is "as" a thosand years not "a thousand years".
