Maybe he's too tired when you're putting him to bed. Being tired is stressful to little ones. Maybe start the bedtime routine earlier and give him a bath to calm him down. Turn down the lights and keep everything quiet and peaceful. See if that helps. :)

He may be over stimulated before bed. TV at bedtime can cause problems. His mind might be racing from the days events, because he is learning so much. I have a 15 month old boy who is high needs, so I know where you are coming from. Try physical activity a couple hours before bedtime. A bath about an hour before, the lavender soap helps sometimes. A graham cracker or cheese (just a snack) about 30 minutes before. And my son enjoys being read to from books with good pics. And enjoys the radio on, sometimes he wants me to sing too. I know, more than an answer, but I hoped I helped. You can IM me.

Try sitting in the room while he goes to sleep, sitting in a rocking chair or something like that. Not talking or anything. If he gets up put him back into bed and sit back down. Eventually he will wear himself out to the point of exhaustion. Just move the chair further and further away from the bed. You might also want to try a night light for comfort too.

It is normal. Just put him in his crib and let him throw his fit. If you ignore him he will learn that night time is time for sleep. If he is crying so hard that is is throwing up that is not a good idea, however. You need to make sure that you have a normal bedtime routine. Bath, read a book, put a CD on that plays soothing music..Kenny G is great for this.

If he's scared leave the light on and might not be sleepy so a toy or two ( not a toy box ) .But tell him that he can stay up in his room , Have a crib , at two he's probably in a bed ? Playpen investment ?As you don't want him to freely walk the room or house .He will get the ideal .I placed a very small fish bowl close and told my grandson it was nemo and he's staying up all night to watch you . One orange fish and the rest came easy .But yours is too young for nemo , but a fish might keep him feeling he's not alone . Good night

Standard night time routine is critical. Do exactly the same thing every night, ignore his fits, and this should straighten out in a few days. In the meantime, a stern word from father, if available, will usually dampen the fits.

Naps are fine! Children need about 13-16 hours of sleep every night. Chances are if he is taking a 2 hour nap everyday he doesn't want to go to sleep at night. Reduce his nap time. He'll be a little crabby, but put him to bed a little earlier. Fighting bed time is completely normal. Its their way of saying I want to be in control of me. You're doing a great job and hang in there.
