I am always anxious before seeing the doctor, my heart is always pounding when they check my heartbeat and ask me if I am o.k., I think it is mostly a fear of the unknown, I have started to feel better though after seeing the same doctor for a while which explains me everything she will be doing. However denists is what I fear the most.

I get that way too, the anxiety is overwhelming and I usually have dizzy spells or faint in the office, though the worst time was when I had a full out anxiety attack at the gyno's office.
I think the best way to prepare for the stress is to try and take long, deep breaths; inhale through the nose and exhale through the mouth, and try to visualize something comforting.
For me, it's the Virgin Mary. I try and keep her image with me throughtout the whole ordeal. Visualization is a strong distraction, so try and visualize something that you can draw strength from, something that gives you confidence.
Another trick is to have someone go with you, someone you trust and especially someone you can depend on. Having that person there with you can be a reassurance that it's not just you against the doctor, and it's also someone that can give you comfort and keep you somewhat relaxed, despite the atmosphere.
Sometimes trying to figure out the root of the problem helps to overcome it. Try and talk to someone, maybe a therapist or a really good friend, and try to think back to when you first started feeling this way, what sparked these feelings, and work on it from there. Sometimes the best thing to do is confront the feelings head-on, and do your darndest to overcome.
But if this isn't enough, and you need someone to talk to, you could always drop me a line.
I'm Miss_Kitae@yahoo.com and the name's Kitty if you ever feel like talking.

I am not just afraid of doctors I hate them. They could control you and know too many personal details about you.I for one, will not tell them everything. If they ask a question,I usually tell them the truth. If I am seeing the doctor for a bad cold, I will not tell him/her about any other problems. Just take care of the cold and get me out of there. I hate going for test even more. Especially blood test OUCH! Turn your fear into the understanding that the doctor will really help you. Now when it is time to go to the doctor always think of yourself as Strong and healthy and this person called a doctor is going to make you stronger and healthier. Think of Popeye eating his spinach
You can think of the doctor's office as a supermarket where you will get health instructions. It may take a while to overcome this problem and you may need professional intervention if it is severe.

I actually had this horrible fear of needles until 3 weeks ago when I went to the doctor, got some shots, and was A-ok, It literally didn't hurt at all, and the doctor was very nice. =)
Your probably a heck of a lot more scared then I was but just keep telling yourself "This isn't going to kill me" over and over. For me, when I'm in a situation where I am really freaking out, I imagine myself after I'm out of the situation, totally unharmed.
I don't have too much of a fear of doctors but (yeah, I know, I'm cool) I'm am VERY scared of balloons...not just balloons but most very loud noises in general (guns, some fireworks...)
I should probably get over it one of these days...

You definately have anxiety about it. There must be a reason for it somewhere in your past or a present situation that has nothing to do with doctors but you are transferring it onto that.
Have you tried a counselor to talk about it? Might help.

Sounds like you are having panic attacks. So you'll need to see a shrink to get over your phobia about going to a doctor before you really NEED to go to a doctor for something other than your phobia. (sorry if this is confusing)
